I rented the chalet Le Petit Poucet one of the Chalets d'Émélie, along with Les Bruyères, Le Pin Blanc, Chalet Bleu and La Chanterelle from June 26 to July 28 in the summer of 2023. I left the chalet after less than a week due to a problem with mice, carpenter ants and flies. I requested a refund, which I did not get.nFrom the day I arrived, June 26, I saw a mouse and I notified the owner and asked for traps. Two wooden traps were provided to me the next day by the owner. He also told me he called an exterminator. On Thursday, June 29, I also informed the owner that there were many ants in the chalet. I killed more than twenty a day upon my arrival. I also killed several flies a day, even though I was very careful not to leave the door open.nOn Friday June 30, the exterminator came. The owner of the chalet did not show up for this visit. The entry point for carpenter ants was identified under a window in the dining room. The entry point for the mice was identified in the garage located under the chalet. I did not have access to this garage as part of my rental, but I went there during the exterminator's visit. There was a workbench there covered in hundreds of mouse droppings. The technician from the extermination company also noticed a strong smell of mouse urine. Part of the ceiling a few square meters of the garage was not finished and we could see numerous pipes, wires and insulating wool, which gave free rein to the mice to go from the garage to the chalet.nThe extermination team set traps for ants and mice as well as poison. She explained to me that the carpenter ants required in-depth treatment to be completely eliminated and that the access for the mice would have to be completely blocked to prevent them from returning to the chalet.nAt that moment, I decided to leave the chalet. I honestly didn't want to worry about a mouse running over my shoulders which happened on the second day while I was reading on the couch or having to kill ants that were crawling around on the dining room table while I was eating. I also didn't want to deal with the possible return of vermin, new visits from the extermination company or having to leave the chalet during an extermination treatment. I rented the chalet for my vacation, to rest and relax in a calm and soothing environment.nThe owner of the chalet assured me that he was not aware of the situation: “I assure you that this situation was not known, having not been reported either by the tenants who stayed less than a week before your arrival nor by the cleaning lady who came just before.” Considering the amount of mouse droppings that were in the garage, I wonder how the owner could have thought that there were no mice in the chalet. In addition, it is his responsibility to ensure that his chalet is fit to be inhabited without nuisance for the people who rent it, not that of the person who does the cleaning or the people who stay there.nIt goes without saying that I do not recommend a stay at Chalets d’Émélie to anyone.
