So, nice location and nice patio. On the evening we dined, a live performer was providing an eclectic mix of samples as diverse as Santana, Barry White, calypso standards and Rick James... weird. Volume was a little loud. The food was good. The jerk ribs were fall off the bone without being over done. They were a little on the fatty side, but pretty good. The coconut rice was a really good side. The jerk chicken was really good with an excellent side of peas and rice. The jerk seasoning was tasty and mild. The service was solid. For a family restaurant though the management could be more welcoming and friendly. All in all not a bad experience, although at $102 all in without booze it is on the expensive side. Parking: You'll need to look around and park then walk. Wheelchair accessibility: No
Visited for lunch as was considering using the venue to host a dinner. Food was good, tasty but somewhat overpriced for quantity. Caribbean rum cake has lots of rum I was pleasantly surprised. Drinks were typical. Staff was friendly. Would dine again as a treat or elevated date due to cost especially if including appetizers or dessert. Parking: No parking at restaurant but street parking nearby Wheelchair accessibility: Patio is accessible, indoor is not, need to climb stairs for restroom.
I had an incredible experience at Laz! Vegan/Vegetarian Food: The curry pineapple paneer was full of flavour and the rice was a perfect side. They had multiple Vegan/Vegetarian options, and even offered for me to order off of the brunch menu for more options I was there past 6pm. Wish they had a vegan dessert - but that didn’t take away from how great the food/experience was. Service: The server and management were so friendly. Firstly, they helped me find parking. Secondly, they allowed my dog on the patio and complimented her. Third, everyone was smiley and friendly! Dog-Friendly Atmosphere: Although not officially dog-friendly through Markham Dog Alliance they did allow my dog on the patio. The music from the DJ was great, the patio is facing the picturesque Markham Main Street, and the historic building it’s operating from is so well cared for! Loved the experience here and would definitely come back! Vegetarian options: 3 Vegetarian/Vegan Options available and more on the brunch menu!
Like many others, we were excited to try this Caribbean "fine dining" spot in Markham! Truly, it is rare to find this style of restaurant within proximity, so I applaud them for creating the space. However, that's as far as my positive experience goes. Summary: We booked for brunch as a party of 8, to celebrate a birthday. Among us, there were children and an expectant mother. We RSVPed to ensure that we would receive a table & prompt service. Our party of 8 arrived in 3 waves, with the 1st few ppl arriving at 1pm. The restaurant was not busy, in fact, there were more servers/staff than full tables. We were all present by 1:30pm but did not receive our food until 3pm. Why???! The server checked in on us TWICE in 1.5 hrs, and mentioned that the food is worth the wait. RIDICULOUS! We were not offered complimentary appetizers/refills while we waited, our glasses were dry after the 1st 45 mins of waiting. The children & pregnant woman were so hungry that they wanted to leave; we all were! Aside from us, there were only 2 other tables of 2/3 ppl, who required service. They ate and left us still waiting. We were the only table sitting there at 3 pm when the food finally arrived. We had to plead with the server to at least, bring the children's plates because they were starving. Still, they waited until all plates were made to bring the food out. We had to request more water and insisted on receiving complimentary bread with our order. The food arrived and looked good, however, the melongene choka was not edible because it tasted very bitter. I was so upset by this, since it is my favorite item to order . The saltfish buljol, bake and tomato choka were fine. The restaurant was all out of the other brunch items that I wanted to order, so I settled for what was available. When the bill came, despite their poor service and management, they charged us 18% gratuity! No apologies from management although the manager was visibly present and looking past our table, every time he walked by What a mess! Needless to say, we won't choose this restaurant to celebrate another event. Dear Laz: Please RETRAIN staff and management in hospitality and get your kitchen in timely order, if you want to succeed. Servers also need to be briefed on menu items and should not be guessing when the food will be ready. It's truly unacceptable and no, the quality of food does not make up for the wait.
This is a lovely place . We visted there just by seeing the exterior . Out first Jamaican cuisine and it was great . Very tasty and quality . Beautiful ambience . Friendly service . Only downside wa the food was a bit late Must visit
I wanted to really like this place as I did some research prior and it seemed right up my family and I's alley. Between the Caribbean cuisine and the live music. I also saw this as a great opportunity to support a fellow black-owned business. However I do not think I will be back. My family and I came today for a fathers day brunch. Prices were not advertised on the site for this particular event or in person. Not a big deal, given we all only had one or two plates of about 10 different meal items to choose from -All lunch items. The food was meh, not bad just meh-. Partially due to the fact that it was served cold. Not sure if the fire underneath wasn't lit but multiple people from my family also noted the same thing. The food always appeared to be running low as well. The only drinks included was water and Sorrel. Not much of a selection. I wish there was more of a selection as I personally do not like sorrel. When we asked for dessert, the server said that it wasn't included and that she only has 2 items on the menu. Ice cream or some cassava cake of some sorts. This was a shock to everyone as we imagined buffet style to be a 3 course meal as other places -which would have made sense. This was a huge disappointment. 2 people ended up ordering ice cream and it came out watery and melted. Heres what topped it off- When it came time to pay, I think everyone was stunned to see such a high bill. For my specific party of 3, for only "lunch" was about $285+. So I can only imagine the groups with 5+ people. We ended up getting the wrong bill and ended up paying a bit less but for the 3 of us, but to me- this was no where near worth it. The service and atmosphere was good. But the food and price point cannot be justified as it wasn't a high end-luxury experience to charge so much. Again, not for a one-course meal. The food served today also did not look like the food presented on the website. We had to go and get dessert elsewhere as well which is very inconvenient. It is possible that regular dining here is a good experience and the manager is very nice but today was very disappointing.
All I can say is wow! Came here for Sunday brunch with my family and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The music, ambience and vibe of the restaurant is cozy, chill and something that fits perfectly into the Main St. community. I had the $25 Sunday brunch which includes 2 types of bakes; coconut bake and fry bake, which also came with 4 sides I could choose from! I picked saltfish buljoh, pumpkin, ackee and saltfish and bok choy! Totally stuffed! If you're gonna come here to eat, make sure that you are H-U-N-G-R-Y! There are definitely not enough black owned restaurants in Markham! So glad to see you guys join the community and I hope this business continues to flourish in excellence! God bless Parking: Behind the restaurant, shared with the restaurant neighboring them I believe.
It was my first time having Caribbean cuisine with a couple of my friends and it was an eye opener for all of us! Some of us don’t usually have spicy food but the hot sauce is truly amazing and we all asked for extra. The chef is wonderful and she makes lots of items such as the sauce from scratch. The place itself is a heritage building so it’s a very nice dining experience. Definitely recommend it!!
I had an opportunity and visited Laz I wasnt sure of the cuisine type till i sat down the food was incredible. It was like high class soul food. So many happy people! The waitress was new but did a great job The owner checked on me a few times and was so friendly. I cant wait to return to try the fried chicken.
We had a great meal at Laz, good food and good service! The space has been renovated beautifully as well, with a nice party room upstairs that would be perfect for a private function.Food: 5/5
