We were lucky enough to grab a table for their soft opening. The ambiance is lovely, with clear attention to detail. We got the beef jerky small plate, which is a bit spicy and is served with a semi-sweet, jammy sauce. I got the panang curry with shrimp, and it was absolutely divine. My husband got the Beef Massaman Curry, which I actually think was even better than the panang! We were tasting each others’ dishes all night. We also tried a few signature cocktails - the Thum Jok!! and Vang Vieng Lagoon. Both were refreshing and tasty. The Vang Vieng Lagoon is sweeter while the Thum Jok!! is a fresher, herbal offering. Staff were cheery and helpful, and we will definitely be back.
I'm usually not a curry girl but man was the Green Curry FLAVOURFUL! It was so creamy and delicious from the coconut milk and had a nice kick to it. The chicken in it was so tender and velvety, I wish I had a whole pot of it. The skewers were also delicious! Very juicy NOT dry at all. The Duck Salad was also very good, the taste reminds me of the Vietnamese Fresh rolls with the pig skin. The thing I was most looking forward to was the Tapioca Dumplings but unfortunately they were all sold out. I thought the restaurant looked very nice and modern. But it was just a tad bit dark in there and the music was extremely loud. It was very hard to have a conversation on top of other dinners too. The service was nice and friendly but it was also very hard to get their attention because the restaurant was so packed which I assumed why our food took so long to come out cause it was so busy.
Food was good - I wish the meat was seasoned a bit more for beef curry. I would also appreciate a bit more portion. Their service has some room for improvement - our seating was limited to 1.5 hours and we constantly had to get server's attention for basic service, which made us feel rushed. Also, the distance between some tables were too close to a point that I could hear everything from the table besides me. My overall experience at Lao Lao Bar would be 3.5 stars on my first visit, but I will provide 4 stars as the restaurant is relatively new.
Everything we ordered was amazing. Flavourful, right amount of spice and balanced. The ambiance and design were fitting to what you would think a trendy southeast Asian restaurant would be like. The best thing on the menu is the Lao sausage sooo good. The Lao BBQ chicken was great too….literally everything was good that we ordered. Cocktails were great too. Will have to go back
The best Asian restaurant I’ve ever been to! The quality of the ingredients and range of flavours were outstanding. The green curry and Lao bbq chicken were both perfect. The pork skewers are probably the best pork dish I’ve ever had in my life. Also I would have to say the prices were very very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back.
Elegant and cozy spot for upscale takes on Lao dishes. The restaurant is much more spacious than you may think — there is a main area as you walk in and a smaller and mote intimate one in the back. Food-wise, the dishes were good and you will definitely get that Southeast Asian flavor. A few memorable ones are the Lao BBQ chicken, the Beef Massaman curry and the Lao sausage. Oh, and the Thai Milk tea was super refreshing. Overall, a great dining experience.
First time at this establishment to celebrate a special occasion. Pros: - Booking online - simple. - Our server Rosie and others - wonderful. - Drinks and foods - good. Cons: - Music - very loud. - Table size - tiny. - Distance from other diners - way too close. For date night that aims for an intimate experience, this might not be your best choice. If you want to hang out with friends, this is a place as it seems to attract young crowds. Enjoy!
Delicious food at a reasonable price. I particularly enjoyed the drunken noodles and BBQ pork skewers! The restaurant is tastefully decorated and outfitted with a classy, well-stocked bar. It is not a particularly large dining space and was quite busy even on a Tuesday night. To ensure you can be seated, I'd recommend making a reservation.
First time here and it was an amazing experience! It was a vibe inside and the food was delicious! The server and hostess were both really friendly and welcoming. We tried a few a few different dishes: - Tapioca dumplings - Drunken noodles - Lao bbq chicken - Duck Salad - Stir fried veggies The chicken takes 35-40 mins to make so make sure you order that first but def worth the wait! It was cooked perfectly, so flavourful and moist. The duck salad was probably my favourite. I loved the lemongrass flavour in it. The tapioca dumplings are very unique and I’ve never had anything like it. I love the bouncy texture of the tapioca. Also, love that the drunken noodles were the thick kind so it soaks up all the flavour! Also got the Thai milk tea which was so good! Food was delicious and def recommend this place
Lao Lao bar is opened by the same owner as the former Sabai Sabai so we were excited to check it out. The food was tasty as expected, portion size is on par with a downtown hip restaurant a bit on the smaller side. The stand outs for me were the duck laab, massaman beef curry, drunken noodles noodles were thick and so chewy. We were disappointed that they didn’t have morning glory like their previous location please bring it back!!! Service was top notch! My son is anaphylactic to peanuts and our server took such great care and precautions to ensure my son’s enjoyment and safety, which was very much appreciated! She was also very friendly and easy to communicate with. The only complaints I have is that they never picked up the phone to answer our inquiries. The restaurant was way to hot so I had to step outside to cool down I was wearing a T-shirt. They only have 1 high chair for the entire restaurant so we had to wait 1+ hour before another table finished using it. Overall, I’m really happy to see Lao Lao bar thriving in their new location. I will be back again!
