This State Park is wonderfully preserved for everyone to see. The views are great from the moment that you arrive. There are plenty of parking spaces. Be aware that overnight parking at the museum is not authorized. Met a few people inside the museum, and they were very knowledgeable about the area. It's definitely worth visiting this location if you're in the area.
What a great visitors center with a lot of history in it! The volunteer gave us a lot of info on the area and where we could find the gold mines we were looking for.
The lovely lady volunteer was very friendly and helpful. She let us watch the informative video and then proceeded to explain how ore was processed at the Bayhorse mine.nThe rest of the rather large displays were awesome rocks, and explanation by pictures and relics of life in the real West in the late 1800s when everything was frighten by horse or oxen teams from the railhead in Utah to Challis and then on to all the surrounding little mines. What a tough life our forefathers had!nA magical walk through the past. Worth the stop. Shady parking lot, lovely bathrooms, friendly hostess and a great display.
Great visitor center where you can pan for gold and put together a rock puzzle. This park has a lot of different units that are miles apart, including the Yankee Fork Dredge, Malm Canyon petrified sequoias, but unfortunately our car could not make the drive even with fairly high ground clearance and four wheel drive -- a jeep or ATV could probably go no problem and assorted ghost towns, of whice Bayhorse is the best preserved
This is not an interactive museum at all. The only thing we found was a very small gold panning experience that hasnt been updated in at least 20 years, and spans probably 5' x 2' total They should check out the panning experience in San Diego Mormon Battalion Museum as a reference. When we walked into the museum some volunteer lady didn't even greet us before shoving down our throats a 10 minute unrequested diatribe on stamp mills.
