Lakeland Junior High School

DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN ATTEND THIS HIGH SCHOOL. I am bisexual and I was a K-12 Lakeland student so please hear me out, for your children's sake. The shop teacher is blatant pervert. I like Question of the Day, but I was in a shop class of all boys except one girl and the question one day was "Do you fold or crumple your toilet paper when you wipe?" When he got to her, she did not want to respond understandably. Instead of letting it go, he asked several more times and let the male students tease her and keep asking her until he dropped it. This is disgusting and if I wasn't 14 when I witnessed this, I would have went straight to admin and gotten him fired for blatant sexual harassment. He demasculated students he didn't like. The music teacher is an openly homophobic man who belittles those he feels are different. He told a shy kid with stage fright loudly and threatingly to speak up multiple times during his one speach he had to give in front of the class. He did this three times, worse each time, and the entire class was getting mad at him for bullying this kid until I finally spoke up and told him he was being a bully and to let the kid go. The entire class verbally agreed with me and he sent me to the office, where I received 1 day suspension and 5 lunch detentions by the Vice Principal after the kid testified in my favor and the rest of the class said would defend me. I had a history teacher that jokingly mocked women and gays in class. I had friends that literally were forced to transfer out of his class because they were so embarrassed. The kids that were on these teacher's sides were rewarded constantly, especially if they were sports members. I watched teachers make fun of trans and gays on CNN for being weird, and this encouraged the kids to partake as well making people like me feel even more alone. Granted, there were a couple amazing teachers. Mr. Normand, Mr. Bush, Mr. Seymour, Ms. Keith, and Mr. Keating are all great teachers who respected me and understood me, but sadly most of them are gone. The Vice Principal is a joke. He never gave the benefit of the doubt. He never respected the kids who didn't either play football, wrestled, or were straight A students. He wouldn't listen to your argument or care what you had to say, even if you were right. Again, this was the man that had two students testify against a teacher for bullying and he punished the kids for it. The other Vice Principal said in an admin meeting he WANTED to descriminate against gay kids to try to correct them in 2013. And I got this information directly from one of the admins at that meeting who left the district because of reasons like this that same year. If you think it's impressive Lakeland was voted one of the top ten schools in Idaho, think again. We tested well because teachers would go over tests directly before we took them. We had several kids in my class that literally tested at a 3rd grade reading level in senior year, K-12 students. The standardized tests were a joke. I took a writing assessment that was "Name three things that describe America and why". I responded with fast food, guns, and black people as a mock of the test and got a perfect score. Yet when I took a similar test and the subject I chose was gay rights, I got a %25 and almost didn't pass high school. The teachers encourage kids to think anything progressive is a complete joke. There were kids laughing at caged orangutans on TV and the teachers laughed too. Every staff member I talked about Negatively still works at this school. If you care about your child don't let them come here. They will learn nothing but prejiduce or abandonment. I almost committed suicide because I hated this school so much. It's been 3 years since I graduated and I am still scarred. And I know Lakeland will take down this review, which is why I am saving it in a folder and will repost it whenever I see that happen. Parents deserve to know, and this school doesn't deserve to be open in 2017. It is downright disgusting. And if you read this and send your kid, you are an unfit parent.
