I was a graduate student in this school.nIn regards to mental health support, you get none!nPut that in mind as an international student, things happen and you will need it.n—The courses were not that good the professors were not responsive, and they were slow to reply to your emails. They were not even that knowledgeable!n— Apart from the educational aspects, one of the worst experiences for me was with the staff. I was staying on campus and had issues with my roommates while having severe anxiety. Not only the staff of the “on-campus residence” were not helpful, but I heard them laughing at me with my roommates. Can you believe it? I know you don't! But it happened. They just cared about money, and only money, and took a lot from me even though I canceled my stay. They took much more than what they deserved after the mental state they put me in. That took months to recover from.nI had one of the worst experiences of life there…n—I know as a fact in other schools they will give you detailed notes on your resume in the career center, especially when you are extremely in need. Not only they didn’t do that here, but the person who advised on my resume was an inexperienced undergraduate. It won't be useful; Based on my own experience, you have to research yourself. The career center is not helpful in general.n— The international advisors are not that helpful. They sometimes give you wrong or scattered information and they offer their help as a paid service! That wrong information caused a lot of difficulty and unnecessary stress for me.n— Thunder Bay is a very small town, hard to meet people with diversity and there is not much to do.n**I definitely would not suggest this school to anyone. No matter how I look at it.nnI am writing this review after months of graduation and finding a related job, so it is not out of immediate anger or frustration, it's simply facts.
I had met some amazing people in Thunder Bay. That is the only good thing about this town called city but it’s definitely not. The university is collapsing. Its days are numbered.nnThe facility is from World War 2. Most staff are lazy and incompetent. Some are extremely rude and racist. Quality of students is insanely low. Cheating is rampant, and the list goes on. Weather is brutal half of the time. For international students, you are paying top dollars to be tortured.nnIf you are young and ambitious, go to big cities like Toronto or NYC. There is nothing left here for your future.
I would not recommend applying to this university for graduate studies. In my experience, they have not been supportive of students and have not prioritized mental health concerns.nnThe administrative processes are extremely slow and can be frustrating. Additionally, I have found that some of the professors are not as knowledgeable or effective as I had hoped. Despite the university's claims on their website, many of the classes are oversubscribed, with more than 100 students in attendance, and they are not as small as advertised.nnThe university's approach towards student preferences and co-op opportunities seems to be driven by financial gain rather than students' best interests. The co-op option is not as advertised, as students are not always approved, and the job opportunities available are not clearly regulated. Moreover, the faculty advisor's personal preferences can significantly affect students' career paths, which can be detrimental.nnFurthermore, the tuition fees are very high, which can be a significant financial burden on students and their families.nnAnother issue is the limited course offerings every semester, which can make it challenging to select courses.nnLastly, Tbay is a small and cold city, which may not be suitable for everyone.nnOverall, I believe that there are better options available for graduate studies, and prospective students should carefully consider their choices before applying to this university.
Have great experiences at Lakehead as an international student. Professors and staff are really considerable and professional.
We travelled in January to Lakehead for a Tour of the campus. WOW - friendly tour guides who knew answers to all of our questions. They showed us so much about life on campus, classes, residences and the various gym facilities. Highly recommend the trip is you’re contemplating LU for post secondary.
