My favorite camp ground of all time. Everyone was SO NICE. We car-camped and as two young women camping alone, I truly felt watched over by the employees. They told us the best places to eat and while there. And helped us buy any supplies we needed in their little store. It was starting to get cold out, so the fact that the showers got as warm as they did… I was truly impressed. Just remember to bring quarters. The grounds and bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve EVER seen while camping. And I’ve done a lot of camping. The Lonesome Lake trail was right by the campground. This was a truly amazing trail. Just make sure you don’t accidentally start on the bike trail if you’re starting it in the dark. The lake is a truly amazing spot for sunrise, if you can catch it. Prepare for very little cell service, if any at all. There’s a random gazebo with cell service along Route 3 Cog Railway Display. We used that a lot for any remote work we had to do. It’s probably about 15-20 minutes away.
Nice parking spot. Google maps shows entrance to this spot a little far, so we missed the right turn and had to come back again to enter this spot which added 11mins to trip. Washroom is located on the other side of the road , which can be crossed via tunnel below it.
Two nights here in autumn. Nice mix of spots. Camp hosts were helpful. 10 min walk to Mt Lafayette trailhead. The trailhead is packed in fall. I recommend staying here if you plan to do the hike
One of my annual camping spots in fall foliage season. Very convenient for long Mt. Lafayette hike. Camp spots, bathrooms and showers are clean.
Clean tidy, can get full very quickly. Couple of toilets located about 50yards into the falling waters trail
Beautiful trails, well kept overall, and clean bathrooms with coin operated showers, laundry & lots of outlets. The store was open pretty late and had a great selection- even tents, clothes, food & hot coffee for those completely impromptu camping trips or gear failures. Many trails accessible from here, and several others just a few minutes drive away.
Truly a spectacular location. The scenic views around the campground are insanely breathtaking. The campground was clean, easy to navigate, and had helpful daytime staff members. We stayed at site 6 which was pleasantly shaded and a short walk to the camp store/showers/bathrooms/dumpsters. It was prefect! ***Though, be sure to bring quarters for the showers!!*** I read a lot of reviews of how the noise of the highway at night was a big nuisance, however, we viewed it as white noise and it ended up helping us sleep. If that's not your jam, just bring headphones or earplugs to block out the ongoing traffic sounds. One downside is that the availability and presence of staff was lacking during the nighttime. That was disappointing considering how loud and rude neighbors could be after quiet hours. I went looking for a staff member after quiet hours to make a complaint and could not find one. Overall, the location of this campground is too good to pass up for campers, nature lovers, and hikers.
Pretty pricey for a state campground I think without wifi or electric or water at site too. Host not that helpful or forthcoming/overly friendly but decent overall. If you reserve online there is a reservation fee but if you go in person they charge the same added amount and just call it a processing fee. Also got charged twice for this fee since I added nights rather than just a one time fee so be sure to decide beforehand your exact plans to avoid unnecessary charges I think $6.50 extra per night. Showers are coin operated so another added cost and will need to bring cash very good temperature- hot. Laundry is one washer one dryer and can get very busy as do the bathrooms. Dryer did not work well and will charge full $2.25 again set 45min if you don’t add money before it stops so be sure to check on dryness before it runs out. Bathroom doors left open unsure why so a lot of bugs there, nothing that had me too scared to return though. Women’s restroom light was out for a good portion of the stay and didn’t seem like restrooms attended to that often. When fixed, the towel dispenser then stopped working. Detailed just as a description…but overall I enjoyed the camping experience and would definitely want to come back usually any campground has some issues and this one overall was a nice experience. It is in a great area and has a ton of really nice sites that are very spacious and you feel like you are camping and have your own secluded area while not actually secluded. Lots of hikers coming from the trail which is cool. Noise didn’t bother me excessively. Close to a beautiful area. Store basic offerings and office open late which is a plus.
Great amenities and everything is very well maintained. Sites are all unique and spaced apart pretty well. I really like that the roads are paved so even my hatchback can manage things just fine. Store is well equipped and staff are very friendly and helpful. Easily one of the best tenting experiences I've ever had.
Great location near lots of trails both easy paved and harder hikes! It had clean bathrooms, clean and nice sites, a camp store, and lots of space between campsites when we were there. The sound of the highway is noticeable but the location is so good and there is tree buffer that reduces the sound so we were fine with it.
