I had mixed feelings about my visit to El Mezcaleria in Vancouver, BC. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the service was good, but the portion sizes left much to be desired. For a table of six, we started with an appetizer that came with just four small tortillas. Each tortilla could be broken into about four chips, which disappeared instantly. We asked for more and received just four more tortillas, which also vanished quickly. It was puzzling, as most Mexican restaurants provide at least a basket or two of chips. The limited amount of tortillas was surprising and a bit disappointing.nnFor my main dish, I ordered the only vegan burrito option. While it was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic, it was incredibly small. For $18, I expected to feel satisfied, but I would have needed at least two burritos to feel full.nnThe vegan churros were splendid! I definitely recommend!nnAlthough the food was delicious, the portion sizes and value for money were underwhelming. If you’re planning to visit, I recommend ordering a bit more than you think you may want. It’s also a great spot for a date, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and stylish presentation.
Beautiful ambience and spot for a date night. Cocktails are AMAZING get the old fashioned!! The guac and ceviche were good but the meat platter was a bit disappointing, the steak was overdone but the sausage was tasty! I would come back, especially for a cocktail, but would order a different main. We got a table without a reservation but opted to sit at the bar.
We were a party of three who caught the end of HH at 4:40 pm on a rainy Thursday and it was consistently busy, but no one was waiting. The HH menu had a bit of everything. I love protein, so this was good.nnDrinks and food came quick. It was all very tasty. The drink threw us off as we were comparing it to a Caesar. It was more like a carbonated Bloody Mary.nnDecor was cool, especially the bar. Lots to see. The place was narrow and long, so different sections had different feel as there are booths, tables of four and tables of two.nnService was easy going and chill.nnThe flan was not too sweet and easy to share. It was all very pleasant at the end.
If you love Mexican, you need to come here. The pastor tacos are to die for! The spicy pineapple margarita is incredible. And the prawn appy is AMAZING. Worth the drive! Will be back for sure. Possibly even on this trip!
This restaurant is overrated, especially given the amount of better and cheaper Mexican food options in Vancouver. Despite our high expectations, we were disappointed by the quality, quantity, and price of the food. Additionally, we had to wait for half an hour before being served. Though it wasn't the worst we've experienced, it certainly didn't meet our expectations, and we won't be returning.nPro: nicely presented dishes.nCons: lack of flavor and expensive.
