We got beef tacos & hubby got a steak burrito. I could only eat two tacos. They’re so filling! The ladies next to us got fajitas & they came out steaming. Was really cool! I’ve never had the burritos & finally tried one. Amazing! Everything is amazing. We love their homemade chips & salsa, as well. Hubby loves their bottled beverages.
We were driving down rt 52 about lunchtime, so I googled mexican food near me and La Esmeralda's popped up so we tapped directions and was directed right to it, however we were kind of unsure if it was the right place or even if it was open but we parked on the street and went in. The building is not very handicap accessible but there is a rail to hold onto while navigating the 2 steps at the entrance. The building is a beautiful old building which we appreciated. It is a very small place but welcoming, and the smell as you walked in was magnificent. We were welcomed in and directed to the service window. There were menus there to choose from. The choices are pretty standard, but the smells in there made it difficult to narrow it down to one dish. We ordered a chicken quesadilla, a steak chimichanga with rice and beans, we picked our beverages from a cooler near the ordering window and went to sit at one of the few tables to choose from. They brought out a basket of very tasty homemade chips and pico, I asked for hot sauce and was brought 2 bottles red was hot, and green was mild both were delicious. Shortly after, our food was delivered. It looked as wonderful as it tasted. Everything we ordered was very fresh and flavorful. The serving sizes were perfect. The one thing you should know is they are a cash only establishment. We will definitely be back to try something else, the people at the table near us recommended the steak tacos.
Steak tacos are amazing! Rice, beans, and the house made chips are also super delicious!! Very nice people as well...we will definitely be coming back time and time again

Bottled beverages and water, alcohol free. Chips and salsa are homemade. All settled in a historic Polo business. Stop in and say hello Hola to Esmeralda. Support your local business.
This place is sooo good. Only way it could be more authentic is to travel to Jalisco yourself. Fresh home made tortilla chips right out of the fryer are the best I’ve ever had. The menu isn’t huge but I’ve never had a mediocre meal there. It’s always delicious. It’s a super small, hole in the wall-type place. Maybe 10 tables. It’s right off of Main Street but you still have to know it’s there or you’ll miss it. They pretty much cook right in front of you. The staff is basically a husband and wife and their teenage son. Their son speaks the best English so he takes the orders. They work super hard to make sure you have a good experience. Definitely worth a try if you are ever near Polo. Worth the drive if you’re not!
I can't say enough good things about this place! It's easily the best, most authentic Mexican restaurant around! It's the classic, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is easy to miss from the outside, but it's definitely worth going in. The menu isn't very large, but the food is exceptional. I'm partial to the chirizo tacos, personally. The nacho plate is enough to feed a family of four and the home-made chips and salsa are absolutely amazing-it's hard to put into words. My only negative thoughts are that it's definitely not handicap accessible as there a couple of steep stairs leading to the front door, and that they make their tamales in a large batch earlier in the day. So if you go later in the day, they may have run out. All-in-all, it's a must try experience! 4 1/2 *
AMAZING tacos!!! Probably some of my favorite I have ever had. I am not from here but was in town for a family event- shocked at how great this place was. I knew even before I walked in that it was going to be good from the smell of the tortillas filling the air. I will be back every time I’m in town! So cool that Polo has such an amazing Mexican restaurant, a gem!
The best hole-in-the wall taco place! I would literally die for their steak tacos. They catered our wedding & it was perfect. I look forward to my visits to Polo just to stop at Esmeraldas!Food: 5/5
The food was alright, staff was ok. I love authentic Mexican food with flavor but for me this was lacking. Just My opinion. Was good all around I must say for the area and price
