What a dinner. Honestly. We had stumbled upon La Belle Excuse, looking for a meal on a long drive. Host / waitress extraordinaire! She is very kind and friendly. I speak French conversationally but some menu items aren't easily translated. She was patient. She spoke limited English but enough for us to make sense of each other. Attentive to every table. It felt like she was an old friend of everyone's hosting casual dinner in her home. She was doing all the front of house on her own. Super caring and just amazing. The restaurant has a warm and cosy atmosphere. From the building itself, the walls, the decorations, the furniture... Everything! There are small tables seating 2-4, but looks like it could be configured for a few more if need be. I didn't know what "Table d'hôte" meant. It's a four-course meal here. Let me tell you what an incredible value for your money it is. The portions are correct. You leave well-satiated, if not stuffed! But also able to make it to the end, and there's always room for dessert. Every single plate was ate clean. Prepared and cooked to perfection. Words cannot fully describe. It was a fantastic mix of rich and delicious flavours. Highly recommended. I will absolutely try to put this on my route the next time I'm driving out this way!!
