Nice place. We were impressed that the food was so good. The tables, some walls and benches, have names carved all over them. I'm assuming that its supposed to give the place character, but it feels more old and unclean in certain places. The waiter was really friendly and the food came out super fast. They have a nice outdoor deck for nicer weather. We would go again, maybe sit at the bar and try some of their drinks.
This is a bar/restaurant a short walk from the university. This is a popular place for the college students. The first time I was there, it was packed, very noisy, and service was very slow. So we left. We recently returned and had a nice meal. Service was good, and food was very good. If you don't mind the noise, then going when it is crowded will be fine. If you want a quieter experience, go in one of their off hours and you will have an enjoyable experience.
We went for the Sleigh bar in December and we were not disappointed. Santa was there on Wednesdays from 6-8 and visited with each table already seated. There was a sleigh set up to take photos and the entire restaurant was decorated from the ceiling down. They had special holiday themed food and drinks and none of them disappointed. This will definitely be part of our Christmas tradition going forward. Kid-friendliness: Lots of yummy kids menu options.
Kate's has been an icon of Main Street in Newark for decades. We stopped in to experience the Sleigh Bar at Christmas. The decor was fantastic, and the picture room in the back was really cool. The themed drinks were meh overall. The food was typical bar grub. The service was good. It was a fun place to hang out for an evening.Food: 3/5
This is a throwback college bar on the main drag near the University of Delaware. I loved the ambiance and the vibe. Obviously this place is popular with students when school is in session. The sandwiches were really tasty. I would stop here again.
We literally just left this place after completing a tour with U of D. I always look for places like this in any town we fancy. Places that look as if they've stood the test of time and have become a staple in the local community. In a nutshell, this little gem was exactly what we were looking for today. The place was decorated as festively as possible, the hostess immediately greeted us and sat us down, waiter was right on it as well. Food was surprisingly above what was expected. Price was right and we were in and out in a timely manner. We'll definitely be back for more. Homerun. Place is an absolute
I haven't been to Klondike Kate's since my early twenties. I recently went back just to see how it was for nostalgia. Food was decent. Drinks were decent. Service was decent. I think for a young crowd, this is definitely the spot to be. For someone in their late twenties - early thirties, this might not be the vibe.Food: 4/5
Make sure you feed the meter! They will get you. Very COVID conscience. The food and service were good. we were a large party and they split us up but kept us close enough. All the food was good. I ordered the Chicken parm and was expecting to be let down since it isnt something i order out because its always bad. This was actually really good! Except for the garlic bread, that was bad. LOL It was like they dumped the whole bottle of garlic powder on it after they toasted it because they forgot. Not a big deal, its only bread! : All in all, a good experience and will be back when i am in town
My wife and I enjoyed a great date night on a Friday evening. This being UofD territory, Klondike Kate’s can get really crowded during the school year, but this time we didn’t have to wait at all! The hostess and waiting staff are friendly, attentive though at times busy. I got a Crab Bisque soup cream based. I’m pretty picky about crab bisque, and this one did not fail to please! It’s a nice big portion for a “cup”. I ordered the fish tacos and my wife got beef fajitas with a salad. The food presentation is great surprisingly for a college area joint and the food was hot and tasty! The waitress kept our drinks topped off, and was within eye sight the whole time. We enjoyed the food, and got to enjoy a life musician on a guitar playing cool hits. The music volume was comfortable, so my wife and I could chat and enjoy our time together! We commented on the vintage stained glass windows onside, and I recall hearing stories of the long history of this location. Loved it.
came here on a whim after our initial plan had a much longer wait than anticipated... food was good, atmosphere is definitely right for a college town. our server wasn't as attentive as he could have been but i never expect much from restaurants on Main Street, Newark.
