Story

Kathy's Cafe is owned by Tracy and Andy Clayton. Tracy is the daughter of Kathy and Steve Bender. In 2002 Kathy and her daughter Liz decided to open a restaurant here in Hughesville. Kathy and Steve were the owner/operators of The Gateway and The Lawi-Saquick for 23 years.
Liz and Tracy both grew up in the restaurant business and opening this cafe just seemed natural to them. In a couple years Liz decided to take on college and headed to AZ to do this. Kathy was not far behind, pursuing her life long dreaming of living and working in the "old west". Kathy drove across the country with her dog Obi-wan and landed in AZ, working as a chef at Grapevine Canyon Ranch. http://www.gcranch.com/ . At that point Tracy purchased the Cafe from her Mom. Tracy and Andy now have two beautiful boys, Owen who is 12 and Noah who is 5. Tracy's family is very important to her and knows that owning a cafe gives them an opportunity to meet amazing people everyday and develop good work ethics and common sense in this crazy world.
Kathy has recently returned from AZ , she has a growing family here in Pa and wanted to be here to enjoy her grand kids. She helps out at the cafe occasionally making pies, cakes and cookies.
Kathy and Tracy are in business to bring people together, make them happy (and full) and make connections with people that sometimes in this hectic world we don't get to make. They will continue to offer in season local foods and fresh juices. Because the food they serve you is the same food they serve there own families.
