We called around looking for someone who could help us figure out our tax situation after returning from living abroad. She overstated her abilities, and tried to tell us that we had to pay taxes on our foreign income. I emailed her references to the tax treaty that seemed to say we didn't, and she did not respond to my email. I made one 5 minute call to the International Tax Services office and found out we didn't have to pay, we only needed to send a letter to Revenue Canada. She held our documents for a month and did not answer our emails or manage to do any of the other things we asked her to sort out (GST overpayment and tuition tax credit changes). After a month we took our documents back and will try to find another accountant. Had she admitted that she did not have experience with tax returns for Canadians returning from that region, we would have found someone who did.
