If you haven't had the wood fired pizza from Kalona Brewing you.are.missing.out. Amazing pizza with perfectly picked toppings & perfect, melt in your mouth, fried cheese curds The atmosphere is great, the music was absolutely perfect, the only thing missing for my brother was a tv because a playoff game was on lol Seriously great restaurant and the bartender Brian, I think was fabulous, he expertly suggested great drinks and let us sample some of their brews, the Horse Power is a great light brew and the Peach is not too sweet with a delicious cinnamon touch All sorts of yummy and I highly suggest asking the waiter/bartender for their faves and secret twists on their dishes
A few beers aren't bad. Only a few of what I call regular beers, lots of designer beers. It's sad that when you ask the waitress about their beer list and they tell you to go take a picture of the chalkboard beer list. The cheese curds and onion rings are very good. The rest of the menu is so designer oriented I couldn't find anything to eat. We went somewhere else to eat.
Really disappointed because usually we do have an okay time but tonight was just absolutely not a good time. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, another 25 minutes after that for our appetizers and then another hour for our main dishes which at that point we had to get it to go because it was hitting 2 hours and getting late. Get home to realize that the meatloaf was burnt to all get out, edible but barely. I don’t know if it was an off night or this is just the continuation of a downhill trend.
This is the second time we've been to the Kalona Brewing Company. Years ago, we were passing through from Illinois going back to Omaha NE and stopped in Kalona and ate here, that experience brought us back. This trip was just as good. Walking in we were greeted and seated quickly by a pleasant young lady. Our wait was like an old friend; courteous, friendly and very helpful. Drinks and appetizer were fast and on point. We had the cheese curds and onion rings not pictured, so sorry and they were so good. The cheese curds melted in our mouths... dangerous little nuggets they were! The NY Steak was more like a filet in texture. The steak, as well as the polenta and sauce it was served with were eye-rolling good. The fish and chips were very good even though the fish was a bit over-cooked, I've had this happen a few times at restaurants that serve fish and chips. I politely brought this to attention and it was rectified to my satisfaction. Mistakes are not a deal-breaker to me, not doing something about it is, they took care of us on this issue. I can deal with that. I had a couple different IPA's and was a happy camper. The beer selection was big and diverse, more than I remember and expected. Beers are very subjective so I'll leave it to you to decide if/when you make your way to the Kalona Brewing Company. Cheers!
Our family often meets here for lunch. We met today, had a group of 9. The staff was quick to get tables pushed together for our group. Service was exceptional as usual; food is always delicious and presented so beautifully. Our favorite meeting spot for family lunches.
They had a wonderful Irish band, Don't Blame the Bard and Celtic dancers! The food, service, company and entertainment were all top-notch! The entire crowd was clapping and dancing in their chairs. Would highly recommend Kalona Brewing. Their brewmaster is very skilled and knowledgeable! A "must experience" this place!!
Absolutely wonderful. Busy but worth it. Greatest onion rings and cheese curds I have ever had and I have traveled the world many times over.
Fun local brewery with an excellent food menu. You can see the large brewing vats from the large open 'living space'. You can tell that they can organize the space for live events or viewing events. I recommend getting a flight of their beers since there is a wide selection and likely something for everyone. The service was super friendly and helpful.
We had wonderful food, great local brew, and fun with the bartenders. We will certainly be back! The Black and Blue brick oven pizza should be a staple on the menu!! There wasn't any sours on tap, but the Red Rover was very tasty. And my husband's Horsepower and Sheer Madness was really good, he said. Awesome find for a couple from Mount Pleasant looking for a good meal after a country drive. High five, KBC!
We came on a Saturday with a reservation due to a group of 10 ppl. Multiple smaller tables were served ahead of us. In fact they sat, were served and left before we got our food. It took over 1.5 hours. Additionally there was an automatic gratuity, which I don’t mind if the service is good. Our server was sub par. I would not recommend coming here with a larger group.
