If you’re looking for a hearty dinner with a combination of pastas and seafood selections this is a great spot. It’s that old family restaurant type feel. Unfortunately when we walked in no one was there to greet us. The women at the counter remained on the phone and kept her head down. I asked if we should seat ourselves or stand and look around. The feeling of being an inconvenience in someone’s day. Luckily the waitress whom came to our table after we seated ourselves saved our impression with a kind smile. The menu has a number of selections depending on your appetite or what you fancy. We ordered a few different things off the menu each to meet our taste buds. The food was alright the saying, “you get what you paid for.” would come to mind. The clams were a hit in the way they were prepared and definitely what we were looking for. The fish and chips were more oil and batter, having to play hide and seek to find the fish within the batter. The end result was it was filling, and a hit and miss. Sadly the smell of oil as you leave stays on your clothes and you are reminder of your dinner. Not being from then area i guess one could say it was a free souvenir.
We had a good time here reuniting with some old friends and this was a pretty good to do so. The food was pretty good but nothing special. The fried foods were a bit soggy and the wait times were a bit long but the waitress was friendly and patient with us.
Sea salt fries were the best thing that night, wish the server would have recommended we all get them. Fish was decent, tartar sauce wasn’t overpowering. Nachos were ok. Calamari was rubbery, nacho salsa was a bit watery, donair burger meat was bland, poutine gravy was pretty bland as well and I think they used shredded mozzarella.
I have enjoyed coming here for years! They have friendly staff and very clean tables, so that is very important! Prices are reasonable and the view of the Bedford Basin is really nice as well. I would say the noise level is average, not really quiet or loud, right in the middle. With a wide variety of yummy foods to try, if you find yourself hungry and in the Halifax area, I would certainly recommend trying this place!
Always love the food here..and always a great option for food. Good prices.. friendly staff awesome food
A very casual dining experience. I ordered the seafood platter and the donair plate. The sweet potato fries were too soft and limp imo and didn't have enough crunch; perhaps double frying would help do the trick. The donair plate was pretty good although a little confusing to eat with the pita sitting under all the meat. Did you want me to roll it? There was too much meat to reasonably roll though, so I'm not sure. The seafood platter was decently fried up, although I was a little confused when the haddock did not come fried as with the rest of the plate. I will say that the most positive thing was the portion sizes which were huge. The staff and service were also great Jim's Restaurant is a solid experience for me.
Thank you for wonderful meals. Service above 5, food 5, price 5. As for quantity, big potion, I couldn't finish my meal, raincheck on homemade coconut cream pie Parking: Free parking parking lot easily 10-15 spaces
At lunch time we had a spaghetti with meat sauce which was excellent, and a steak breakfast which was good. We were also pleased with the service and surroundings. I would certainly have the spaghetti again.Food: 4/5
Wonderful place! The waitresses are so friendly and accommodating. Seafood platter is very tasty and filling. Got coconut cream pie for dessert and it was so light and fluffy. Window seat provides a beautiful view of the harbour.
We went and I was shocked at the menu prices. Only $10 something for two large eggs, four pieces of baked long slices bacon, two good sized pieces of toast and a nice chunk of those potato home fries. I was amazed. You definitely get the most bang for your buck when you eat there. The taste was also amazing. Best eggs in HRM. GOOD: The portion size was amazing. Not too much, but definitely not too little. The eggs and their home fries were amazing. I loved the real skin on potato chunks. The bacon was baked in the oven, which let it stay long but also crispy. The service was also great. I loved that you could seat yourself wherever you wanted. Our waitress was wonderful. The food came out very quick. BAD: Their french toast wasn't the best. It came with a bunch of cinnamon on top after it was cooked as well. I thought it was a little too much. It was also a cold, so I'm not sure if it was made first and then it just happened to sit for a few minutes but it felt cold to touch. Then we added the syrup which was also cold duh which made the bread a bit more cold. Some of my home fries/potato chunks were cold. So it's almost like they added the old ones on top of the new ones to try and keep them warm which it didn't. Overall I was pleased and I am excited to try their lunch! And give their breakfast another go! I love supporting local businesses.
