Story

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is comprised of five divisions within the department including: Support Services, Jail, Patrol, Detectives and Communications. In addition to these divisons we also have several specialty units. These units include K9 Handlers, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Water Safety Patrol, Snowmobile Patrol, Motorcyle Patrol, Truck Inspectors, Underwater Investigation and Recovery Team, Honor Guard and a Drug Task Force. The Sheriff's Office also utilizes the Jefferson County Emergency Communications (JCEC) team for planned events and emergency situations.

The Patrol Division is comprised of 43 members which include one captain, six sergeants, 34 deputies, one mechanic, and one secretary. The patrol deputies are responsible for patroling 583 square miles. The couny is quartered into four main patrol areas in which deputies are responsible for patroling. During their normal work shift, deputies are responsbile for traffic patrol, accident investigations, warrant attempts, conducting residence, park, and business checks, conducting transports, and also handle a large variety of citizen complaints.

The Support Services Division is comprised of one sergeant, one civil process deputy, three deputies assigned to courthouse security and several part-time deputies. Support services is responsible for providing security and bailiff duties within the Jefferson County Courthouse. The civil process deputy is responsible for serving thousands of civil process papers through out the year. He is also responsible for conducting all Sheriff foresure sales. The part-time support service deputies assist us in conducting incustody transports. There are several inmate transports on any given day. They transport adults and juveniles throughout the State for court appearances, warrant pick ups, mental commitments, and alcohol detoxifications.

The Jail Division is comprised of 38 members which include one captain, six sergeants, 29 deputies, and 2 secretaries. The main responsibility for the jail staff is the safety and security of the inmates. Jefferson County's average daily inmate population is approximately 160. Inmates are held for a large variety of reasons that range from felony and misdemeanor charges, to probation holds, to people waiting to make their initial appearance in court. The jail offers our inmates a wide variety of jail programs; adult education, life skills, family skills, job skills, just to name a few. All of our meals for the inmates are provided by our own kitchen staff. Our kitchen is also licensed as a resturant and receives great reviews every year.

The Detective Division is comprised of 14 members which include one captain, two sergeants, eight detectives, and three secretaries. The detective division is divided into two groups, general detectives and our drug metro unit. The majority of crimes investigated are identity thefts, property thefts, burglaries, domestic abuse, sexual assault incidents, and drug related crimes.

The Communication Division has one supervisor, nine full-time dispatchers, and a four part-time dispatchers. The communication center is responsible for answering 25 phone lines that consist of non-emergency and 911 calls for all of Jefferson County, with the exception of non-emergency and landline 911 calls from within the city limits of Watertown, Whitewater, and Fort Atkinson. Besides answering over 70,000 phone calls a year, the communication staff is responsible for maintaining all warrants, restraining orders, and injuctions issued by the Jefferson County Circuit Courts and other various municipal courts. They are also responsible for training new dispatchers, entering officer reports, maintaining accurate geographic files in our computer system, maintaining the 911 database, and assisting with scheduling.

I was here once for a while, and they only fed me 18 PB&J sandwiches, 9 1oz bags of Fritos and 9 apples. That is all the food I was allowed to have for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Ridiculous.. Don't go to jail I guess huh. Lol
