Such an adorable restaurant, both inside and with their patio area! With JAR standing for just another restaurant, I feel like the name doesn’t give them enough credit. I was really impressed with the variety on their menu - where else can you find tacos and sijang tongdak? Everything was delicious. Our one critique was that the salmon in the salmon ossobucco seemed a bit over-cooked, probably due to the fact that the scallops were in the middle. We really enjoyed our meal, and the Virgin Mariposa was the best mocktail i’ve had! I was addicted to the chicken drummies and could eat those all day, every day. The sijang tongdak was super flavorful, and I loved the How Do You Like Them Apples salad. I would love to come back and try more of their menu!
Ok so, I come here all the time to hang out at the bar because I love AZ the bar manager, Desiree, Nico, and Joe the general manager. I usually just grab a couple of drinks after the kitchen is already closed but I came in a bit earlier today. AZ told me that they got a new chef and encouraged me to get some dinner because they’re working on a new menu. I asked him to have the chef make me whatever he wants from the menu that he’s working on, as long as it included duck. He put a plate in front of me I’d probably stab someone over. Been here at least 30 times, first time eating dinner. Happy decision. I guess I’ll come here while the sun is still out now.
Incredible food and incredible drinks. It’s a great hidden gem. Service was amazing and it made for a fantastic date night. It’s so cute inside. We’ll absolutely be back. Especially to check out the great outdoor seating area.
I hate giving such a low mark but I call it like I see it and eat it. Had them at the Hartford Food Festival. Chicken skewers, $3 each. Very tiny, i understand costs are way up but bad 1st impression and ice cold, just the worst and did not taste good, bland, even covered in their sauce that looked quite yummy. I will try them at their restaurant location and possibly update if this was a food festival location problem.
Wonderful cocktails, great food, and awesome staff. Truly liked it!!!!
Ok. We were excited to see a new restaurant. Let’s see. We actually went almost an hour away only to realize the other restaurant was closed and seems Jar+bar was calling us. Open hours- impressive. Hard to find restaurants if you are hungry after 9 around downtown. So 5 stars for that. Parking - there you lose points. You have to depend on street side parking. There was a parking at back but in and out is the same narrow lane. So I was very skeptical. 2 stars Seating - ample outside seating so 5 for that Cleanliness - this is where I was little shocked to see so much negligence when we r just getting out of pandemic. Many tables had dirty plates left on them for a while. The bathroom was overflowing, the men’s toilet had pee overflowing, the basin had water overflowing. So taking out all stars till now whatever I gave coz cleanliness is very important. -5 stars Staff - very friendly and welcoming - 5 stars Ordering - initial order took almost an hour to come. We were hungry so 2/5 Food- 5/5 fish and chips were very good. Wings were tasty We even tried the pizza. There was a DJ playing inside. So I think this place has lot of potential. Just take care of the cleanliness and the parking. So over all must try.
The food here is pretty good, we tried 2 apps, the nachos, which were good, but nothing special, and the steamed sliders, also good, but not really different than anywhere else. The setting and service were both very good. However, 2 apps and 3 drinks brought us to $75 before tip. For that kind of money I expect be be very impressed with the food and $11ish for a rum and Coke!?!? Nope.
My wife and I went to Jar + Bar for a casual wedding anniversary dinner and drinks, we wanted to try something new. The service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. However I noticed there weren’t many people dining, only people at the bar. I figured it was because its Thursday so I wrote that off in my head. We ordered our food from the taste of Hartford menu and the Brussels sprouts and wontons that we order were not quality food. The Brussels were cut in half and fried in a fryer with just a very little bit of cheese and the wontons tasted like freezer. After this I lost confidence in the food so I asked if we could pay for what we got drinks and apps, so we could leave and eat elsewhere. They were very understanding! Our food was coming out as I was talking with the manager. He asked if we could try the food that’s coming. I said sure, then he came back shortly to check on us. Our suspicions were right and the food tasted like it had come from a TV dinner and was warmed up. The manager was so so sweet and very kind he understood and offered us everything at no cost and a free drink. We declined the free drink and were very grateful at his response. That being said, if you come to this place, go to the bar and have drinks. Until they get their kitchen up and running properly with real food I wouldn’t recommend this place as a restaurant.
For my first experience at this restaurant it was OK. Although the food looked amazing it was very lackluster and flavor. The rice and beans had absolutely no flavor so I had to add quite a bit of salt and pepper. The steak was seasoned well however and the pico de gallo complemented it nicely. My friends Caesar salad was very dry with minimal dressing so we had to ask for more. Her ribs were very flavorful and tender however the coleslaw was very runny and almost soup like with lots of onions. I do think with the few adjustments to the menu in addition to some more authentic Spanish seasoning considering this is a Spanish restaurant - it will be fine. The location is great as well however the parking area is very small. Also I highly recommend getting the Mariposa cocktail. Very sweet! I’d give this place another try in a few months worth of stuff they’ve made improvements to the menu/flavors.
I wish I could leave a review on the food quality but I can't since I never got to try food I won't be able to. Me and my husband literally waited well over 1 1/2 hrs 90mins+ for the food that never came. The server was quick to take our order in and brought us 2 glasses of wine that we requested and that was pretty much it. We waited and waited and watch how the table next to us who came in around 15 minutes after we were seated got served drinks, appetizers, a 2nd round of drinks, main course and even paid while we stared at our wine glasses. We noted that their waitress kept apologizing often for the slow service but our server never, NOT ONCE showed up to check up on us or to explain what was going on even though we saw him attending other tables with relevant frequency. We decided to leave after we saw how multiple tables left after they were done eating. We walked up to the counter and let them know that we had enough waiting and they didn't even tried to make it up to us or explain the situation. The place looks nice but the service was AWFUL. Wish I had a 0 stars option.
