Created by Governor Booth Gardner's administration, the "Team Washington" program created an economic development organizational network. Founded in 1985 by a Resolution of the Board of Island County Commissioners (RCW 43.330.080 and BOCC Resolution March 1985), the Economic Development Council for Island County serves as a public / private forum where the entire community can plan and implement enhanced economic opportunity for all with the intent to bolster the Island's locally ran businesses and to encourage outside business to make Island County their new home.
Your EDCIC was created as a non-profit organization to link Washington State programs and local governments to partner with our business community. The ultimate goal of economic health is a more balanced and diversified economy which will enhance quality job opportunities and broaden our tax base. To implement these goals, we must seek compatibility with community needs and desires while enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life for our residents.
Foster economic balance that preserves the county’s rural character while providing business, employment, and quality of life opportunities for its residents.
