IGA extra Rivière du Loup

Clean and upscale grocery store for this area. Had great experiences in the few summer months we stayed here except for one concerning incident.nnThere is a natural beauty section in this store where I bought a couple of natural sunscreens for my kids. The lady was very nice so I went back to get lotion when I ran out.nnI use Everyone lotion and noticed the price in the store is about 30% more than what I usually pay, so I decided to look around and buy something that I had never tried before. An older lady came over to me enthusiastically and started to talk to me in rapid French. I apologized and said I only speak English. The look of disgust on her face and the rapid change in attitude was comical. She walked away and glared at me from a distance. There was a few testers so I tested a cream. My toddler daughter naturally grabbed a tester as well and squeezed out a bit of serum. This lady quickly rushed to my daughter's side and took the tester away from the shelf because a little bit dripped onto the side of the bottle. She cleaned the bottle in front of me, making her displeasure known. But this is a tester and I felt like we were treated very rudely. The looks she gave us was pure disgust. We are ethnic anglophones, and I feel that most people are warm and welcoming in Riviere du loup, but some are definitely not, and it is very obvious.

Stopped overnight and went to IGA. Asked one staff member in the bakery for a spoon. We laughed our way through the language gap. I then asked a woman in the fast food section. She responded in French. When I told her I didn't speak French she yelled at the top of her lungs and waved her arms in the air. Didn't understand that either. Funny thing is I have been a resident of Quebec for 10 years now. Management needs to do some work here

It was excellent. What a wonderful store. They have everything you need and even more. I would recommend it 100%. Food, deli, beer, wine , flowers, gifts etc..

Lovely staff who were very kind and patient as I did my best to communicate in French. Their English was far better! Beautiful, clean store with great selection and prices.
