I had Mike as my Class 5 driving examiner, and he was excellent. He was friendly, calm, and professional throughout the entire test. He gave clear instructions, which helped me stay focused and comfortable. His respectful and positive attitude made the experience much less stressful. I really appreciated how patient and encouraging he was. Thank you, Mike, for making the road test a fair and positive experience!
I am posting this from a different account because my previous review became invisible for reasons I do not understand.nnThis was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I have ever had.nnI went to this location multiple times to take my knowledge test. Because I was 18 at the time, I brought the exact parental consent document that was listed on the ICBC website and confirmed as acceptable by ICBC’s main office. The name of the document is MV2606B, and I must use this document since I’m “not”living with my parents. Despite this, I was repeatedly told there was a problem with it and was turned away. They wanted to me to have a different document, but that’s for people who “live with” their parents and under 19.nnDuring the second visit, I showed my Canadian passport and BCID as my ID to take the test, but my Canadian passport was scrutinized page by page as though there were concerns about its authenticity. If there were genuine concerns about my passport, staff should have contacted the appropriate ID focal point rather than making their own determination. I later obtained my ICBC records and discovered that I had been recorded as an “international student,” even though I was born in Canada. And it also shows on my passport that I was born in Vancouver, Canada. Once, that asked me to show a visa, but how am I supposed to show it? I’m a Canadian who was born here.nnFor context, I’m mixed white and Asian.nnWhat I found particularly troubling was that after several unsuccessful visits, I returned with my uncle, who is white. He was not my parent, I was using the exact SAME documentation, and nothing about my situation had changed. Yet I was suddenly allowed to proceed with the test.nnI want to be clear that I passed both my L and N tests on the first attempt, and I had no issues with ICBC’s testing procedures or with other staff members. My concerns relate specifically to the way my documents were handled and the treatment I received at the counter.nnAfterward, I sought an explanation through legal channels and was ultimately told that nothing inappropriate had occurred. Given everything that happened, I strongly disagree with that conclusion.nnReaders can draw their own conclusions, but this experience left me feeling that I was not treated fairly.nnAnd the picture is from my record on ICBC system, which I got it through ICBC Freedom of Information requests.
I passed my class 5 exam on my second attempt few weeks ago and would like to share my good experience on my examiner - Mike.nnMike tested me on every driving skill - parallel parking, left/right turns, hazard perceptions, lane changes, school/playground zone etc. He even designated a specific parking space to test my parallel and stall parking which I understand some examiners will let one parking at a space at own’s choice. He didn’t make it easy for me and thus I am not writing this good review on him simply because he passed me on the test.nnMike is fair, reasonable and professional. When he called my name and walked me out to the parking lot, he explained to me the test process in a very clean but cheerful manner, which eased my nerve. It was really a nice gesture for an examiner to do so.nnDuring the test, Mike always gave very clean and advance instructions comparing with the examiner in my first attempt who always gave last-minute instructions. There was an occasion I needed to make a right turn on a stop sign, I was waiting for a clear gap and a car behind me pressed the horn. After I made the turn, Mike asked me to explain the situation. I explained that it was clearly unsafe for me to make the turn but the driver in the car behind me couldn’t see other cars coming and thought I was too slow. He agreed and further explained how one should drive safely instead of driving under the pressure of others. After the test, he was very patient in giving me feedback.nnOverall, it was a very nice experience going through the test with Mike!
I just passed my Class 4 road test yesterday January 14/2026 and such a great experience and staff were very professional, friendly and welcoming, A huge thank you to my examiner, K.D He was calm, respectful, and made me feel at ease when I was nervous at the start of our exam. My examiner was Mike, who was very friendly and professional. He explained things very clearly, making the test process easy to follow. His positive attitude made me feel much more relaxed during the road test.
