It is an interesting place. I think Dr. Johny's family had a very happy period of time together in this house. I can see it throughout many little things such as some handmade pictures of a little girl, some spinning wheel in both kitchen and bedroom, or a very weird wooden chair. Thank you for preservation this house very good.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
We were served by the most adorable boys. Not large portions but for$12 which included a tour of the historic house , it was well worth it. Réservation required.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
It's okay. The place is beautiful outside, lots of flowers and butterflies. The house is gorgeous. Service was alright, a little standoffish. The scones were burnt on the bottom just a bit but for $10 a person, can't complain much. I suggest getting the tour of the museum to make the most of your visit.
Had tea and a tour here on Wednesday. Alexa was a delightful and most attentive server. Tea was inside due to road construction in a delightfully cool period room. Scones, preserves, tea and ice tea were all very enjoyable. Afterwards we had a tour led by Ray... who was enthusiastic and informative. A great experience!
It's an historical house and was the home of Sir Sandford Fleming. A most interesting tour. The volunteers also make very good jams. The Christmas market is next weekend
Had tea & scones outside on their shaded patio. Even in the heat it was pleasant though warm. The tour was good especially because the house is airconditioned & masking is required. They had an exposure the previous week so their protocol helped to keep the museum open. Well done Hutchinson House for keeping us safe while giving us a pleasant experience!
Nice little piece of local history. Guided tours, help tell the story. We showed up just before the tea setting so there was a bit of commotion. Alot of artifacts are of time period but not authentic to the house. Everything is in good condition considering the age. It's hard to believe that a doctor so engaged in the area there is so little knowledge of his presence. Tour guides answer your questions and provide a unique perspective on Peterborough history. I found the admission price to be a little high, but worth the look regardless.
Went for the Scottish Tea service on the patio and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fresh scones and oatcakes were delicious and came with a variety of jellies, cream, and butter plus a beverage - I had a pot of tea in a cozy all to myself. Incredibly, you get a free guided tour of the home included. Tea is $10 and a tour alone would have been $5. Guides really knew the history of the home, its many occupants, and the restoration thoroughly. Fascinating connection with Sir Sanford Fleming, too. Amazing value and so much fun. Highly recommended!
Lovely afternoon tea with scones was served by staff dressed in period costume. Several jams were offered. The rhubarb/ginger was delicious. Strawberry and peach were also available. We were warmly greeted with COVID protocols present but not dampening to the spirit. Though the weather was unsettled to begin, we were encouraged by the balcony overhang which ensured we would not get wet, and while we were there the sun came out, dappling through the beautiful mature trees preserved around the patio, that provided a screen between the "historic" setting and the "modern" world beyond. A delightful time was had by all four around our table.
Fascinating history. The guide was amazing. I absolutely recommend visiting
