What a view! You can see down to Manhattan and a good part of the lower Hudson. We took a brief but sometimes steep ascent on the yellow trail to the summit from the sparest of parking spaces on route 9W (you can also take the aqua-blazed Long Path to the summit from elsewhere). No facilities, but well marked trails through pretty woodlands and spectacular views make this a nice place for a hike.

We hit the long path south along the east side of Rockland lake. It is a bit of a climb and a little technical with rocks and snow but we were rewarded with some beautiful views. After reaching the highest point we continued on for a short section on the long path to turn right on to the yellow trial. A very nice single track and mostly downhill. You end on the golf course. From there we walked back on the road walking North to where we had parked the car. It took 2hrs to do the loop.

Excellent parks for quick hikes. Beautiful views. Just be prepared for quick weather changes. And then a great place to meet friends for reunions.

Hook Mountain State Park has some spectacular and panoramic hikes with expansive views of the Hudson River spanning from Manhattan (visible if it is a clear day) to the Tappen Zee Bridge and towards north to the Bear Mountain bridge. The main hike is a loop of about 6.2 miles that can be started either from Nyack (south entrance) or from Congers (north entrance). The hike is overall easy to moderate with some steep sections at beginning and at the end.
