Great hike!! Not for everyone, a bit challenging at the end but not that bad. Make sure to be wearing good hiking footwear.
What a great hike. Roughly 60 minutes, maybe 2ish miles. Couple steeper hills and or rock steps and roots. Need to be able to maintain your breathing as some parts require climbing and stepping over obstacles. Mostly because your climbing a mountain ...right. good wore trail most the way. Always a few cut throughs but main route is preferable of ease. So I say intermediate level for sure. Great hike though and very much worth the views. Been up there a few times over the years. Always a must for me when the chance arises. Great family outing. It is more popular these days so often enough their will be others along the trail. Which was beneficial for the one couple we ran into that were kinda going the wrong direction . They asked for help and I pointed them in the right direction as I headed up the same way. With a dog they made it as well.
Great hike. Busy but not to busy you could not social distance. Had our well behaved dog with great recall on leash and 2 dogs ran up to ours in attended. ‍
Came up here during a storm which was scary to say the least but after the rain and thunder past the Hogback left an absolutely breathtaking Vista of Marquette and Lake Superior. We watched as clouds rolled by and the fog passed over the bay.
Beautiful view, very last part of the trail has a high slope. Hiked this in the winter. The trail is traveled by hikers and bikers so unless it just snowed a lot snowshoes aren't needed. Yak tracks or something of that nature are needed or very helpful for the last part.
A bit technical near the top but worth it for the view. About 3 miles round trip hike.
Marquette area has some beautiful hikes and this is one of them!
Awesome trail. Not for out of shape people. There are other easier trails nearby also. Be sure to have your phone GPS on as the trail marking is a little unclear. Also you need to pay for a recreation pass, either a day for $9 or annual for $17 resident / $34 for out of state resident.
Great hike with the dog. Occasionally need to look for the trail symbols to stay on track. Mostly shaded until you get towards the top which was really nice.
I hiked this about 8yrs ago and fell in love with it. Hiked it a handful of times. This last time was yesterday. Wow alot has changed. Its not for a beginner. I wish I lived in Marquette to climb more often. What a fantastic climb.
