I’m always going by HobsToo, every couple of weeks or so, to look at their window. They’re always interesting and well done. It’s not like any other charity shop in Vancouver. Everything is displayed artfully and with imagination. Yes, the prices are higher than most thrift shops but the quality of their offerings are much higher than others as well. I walk around the store Googling the prices of items and believe me! I’ve scored some real treasures that I could have spent hundreds, even thousands more at retail! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Even though I live a far distance away, this is the destination I go for when shopping in Vancouver. I took this picture of one of the recent windows just to give an idea of what they do! Thumbs up!
I take a look at it every time I pass by. I'm not a collector, but I do know how much certain brands cost at other thrift stores or Facebook market. Personally, I feel the goods here are very average, but the prices are higher.
*EDIT* response to stores reply since they had the audacity to respond to me: “Hi there, thanks for your response! It really doesn’t matter if you’re pro profit or non-profit! The issue is prices for items that went up in astronomically! Just becuse Value Village is price gauging people doesn’t mean small businesses should take their example. From spending a couple of hundred dollars in 2020 at your store, it came down to 0 dollars in 2022, because it’s really out of my price range to buy a pretty 10inch x 5inch picture in a frame for $20 where I know I’ve seen the exactly same ones sold for $3,99-$7,99 at other thrift stores and flea markets. On the same day as being in your store, I was at Salvation Army in Broadway where they had a old navy t shirt for $15! You might not want to admit it because you’re “curating your store” but you’re using the same problematic technique as all other greedy thrift stores. People go to thrift stores because they can’t afford antique stores and expensive brand new mall clothing. People are buying used stuff because it’s supposed to be “affordable” for them. So you tell me for who your non for profit business caters to? To bougie old ladies or to all kinds of people like myself who have been thrifting all their life because we can’t afford expensive items?! Yes it’s very hurtful when I find an overpriced item at your store and leave, realizing your prices have become too much. “ I can find everything I find at your stores at other locations across BC for 70% less of the prices you have your items priced at. Buyer be ware, these people think they’re so cool and entitled to over price old objects. This thrift store has become the new over priced old ladies store. Picture frames that were $5 back in 2020 are now whopping $20. I straight up told these ladies this store doesn’t represent thrift store title anymore to which I got replied to “our researches find the items worth online” Wow so now we are gonna base prices on things that other amateurs base their prices of whatever they want on eBay and other selling platforms. What a joke, whoever is involved in this business shame on you for creating another overpriced business.
They have a wonderful collection - elaborate beer steins, cut glass, royal doulton dishes. It's not all in prime condition, but it is well curated and reasonably priced if you're looking for something beautiful. I didn't see much in the way of clothing or furniture in the shop. They seem to specialize in dishware.
This thrift store is amazing. It would be impossible to write a review without mentioning how amazing the volunteers are who manage it. They are always kind and helpful. You have to look no further than their window displays to see how much work they do. And, of course, the proceeds go to the Vancouver Hospice Society nonprofit. As for the items on sale, I am always impressed by the wide range being sold. The prices vary greatly, from drinking glasses that cost $1 to nice furniture that is hundreds of dollars. Some items are vintage/antique and cost more, others are used but highly affordable. This means students on a budget can find something here just the same as someone not as worried about their spending. I have purchased some great-quality items here that I use all the time. In summary, if you haven't visited before I would highly recommend it!
A Rare 5 Stars Here - Top Notch Thrift Store, and the lovely ladies who work there are very helpful. Not a cheap place, but mostly good quality and there are some bargains too. Stuff sells here, so nice to visit every week or so. They have new window displays each month. The items are 4 sale, but only after the display is taken down. Bring them paper bags if you have any extras
The volunteers were very kind and helpful. It was my first time visiting the shop, and I'll be happy to return. The ladies did a fantastic job of wrapping up the old mirror I purchased, and I seldom see such care and effort put into customer service these days, let alone from people who are volunteers. Thank you again!
I was looking for a wedding gift and had decided to give some teaware to my friend. At HOB Too I found unique stoneware teapot and mugs that I loved. It was a tough choice because they have loads of fine china, collectables and even some furnature.
I just saw an older lady short red hair, glasses, long skirt, vest in the store Saturday night at midnight but then looked again to see noone there. Please someone respond and tell me someone was working late hours and I didn't just see a ghost. Help :
Some really great finds here. It quite expensive and isn't a real "thrift store", but it is for a good cause and it's a nice, not-too-busy place to shop.
