My boyfriend and I went here for dinner this past Friday night to celebrate. We have heard people raving about them for months and honestly I understand why! We began at the bar and ordered an old fashioned and throughout our meal, the bartender was funny and very personable. They seated us at a private and very romantic booth in the back. The server was prompt and also incredibly personable. My boyfriend is a clam chowder fanatic and said it was the best he has ever tasted. My salad was extremely fresh and the house made french dressing was to die for. For our entrees my boyfriend has the Davenport Wellington and I had the Shrimp Florentine. We both were gushing the entire time about how amazing our food was and finished everything to the last bite. We of course then had to try desert! We ordered the chocolate espresso cake and it was to die for! The Historic Davenport House executes fine dining to a tee and we will surely be coming back to bring our family and friends. We are blessed to have such an amazing eating establishment in our hometown.
We went here while traveling in Rhinelander. It is newly opened. The atmosphere is wonderful and welcoming in this quaint historic house. Someone came by to give us a roll so we each had one. My suggestion is that the rolls be warmed as these were a bit dry. We ordered two appetizers. Crab and Fennel Crostini and the Pork and Duck meatballs. The Crostini was good but a little thick for me to bite through because it was hard. The meatballs were delicious and tender. I ordered the Duck entree with a side of the potatoes I had read about. The potatoes were super thin and crisp. Very good! The duck was slightly overdone but still very tender and delicious! My companion ordered the Portabella Wellington with a side of the gravy that comes with the Beef Wellington as suggested by the waitress. Delicious! The salad that came with the meal was a nice mix of fresh greens and not the icky iceberg salads you get at allot of restaurants. We rarely order dessert but the Tirimisu sounded good so we ordered it. Yum! The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. We would definitely return!
Disappointed Charming atmosphere does not compensate for cold soup. Soup served so cold we had to ask if it was intentional. We politely asked if they could reheat. It took 15 minutes for the soup to be returned. It was barely warm which made me wonder what happened in the kitchen, server issue or something else. Dinner entre was small but very good, Salmon in Pastry shell. Maybe lunch would be a better option in the future.
Unbelievable bad place to eat, I thought it would be a nice place, but looks can be deceiving, the worst service, we had to ask for drinks coffee, when ordering they were out of almost everything, and then screwed up the order, they only had one waffle, and ended up burning it, brought food to table put on table then found out it belonged to the table next to us. Never will go there.
Not what I expected. Besides being out of most of the items I would've liked to try, my wife and I ended up with very delicious salads and a side dish. I recommend calling in advance to ask if they have an entre that you would like. The quaint sudo dining environment and overall experience our table wobbled was not equal to the total on the bill. I hope this will improve. I will give another review after going for the lunch.
Impressive wine menu. Every item we had was outstanding! Chicken artichoke entree & falafel sandwich were tasty and well presented. Barbara was an attentive server. We will be back!
Great food, greater service. An absolute diamond in the rough. Rhinelander is totally becoming a foodie paradise! Had the Athena Shrimp, and the crabcake was phenomenal!
Fabulous host, waitress, ambience, service, meal, dessert. Best meal we've had in some time! We hope you are here for a long time to come! They do everything right here.
FINALLY Rhinelander has a classy upscale restaurant. I love coming to the Davenport House for Sunday brunch. They have an unusual menu featuring items you normally can’t find at Northwoods restaurants shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, s’mores crepes.
Great food and excellent service everyone! Had the deconstructed beef wellington last night and it was perhaps the best plate of food I've ever had. Well worth the price!
