While walking down State Street, came across this place. As the outside seating area was busy we decided to give it a try. I am not sure if all the dishes were authentic but they did have flavor. However, we felt that both the veggie dishes tasted somewhat similar. The dishes were definitely fresh. Enjoyed the soup the most. If you like spicy, try their hot sauce, it was fantastic. It is hot so be careful. Our server was attentive and she was very friendly. The food was served without any delays. Overall experience was average. Vegetarian options: Plenty of choices for vegetarians.
This place had the coolest vibe, it was like a boutique hole in the wall. I really enjoyed the more obscure Nepal food, and I loved the Golden tea. I think it was a tad on the pricey side, but the quality was great and it didn't take too long to get my food at all. Fun place to hang out with friends even though it closes pretty early.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: No
Himal Chuli is one of the classic small businesses that makes State Street great. Had some time to fill on a Wednesday afternoon so I stopped in for a little bite. I ordered the samosas, which were as delicious as they were beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised that the order included a delicious cup of dal too. Absolutely recommend for flavors that are a little of the beaten path!
Really great spot for authentic Nepalese food. Easily walkable spot on State Street near plenty of parking. Located in a historic building, with an interior that hasn’t changed a bit in decades. The space is well used with tables shoved in every possible spot and bathrooms haphazardly built into the dining room. All that said, the experience is wonderful. The staff are friendly, attentive, and fast. Prices are fair and the menu has great options. Most of the food is not spicy, catering to the midwestern palate. The menu is mostly a la carte. There are daily Takaris, which are basically vegetable curries. The dal is a rotating soup. I opted for rice, cauliflower takari, and dal. The takari was delicious. It looks simple but packs a ton of flavor. The dal is wonderful, and is the kind of soup that seems like it could cure any illness. I also tried a bite of the other takari of the day and some of the momo. Everything rocked.
The Talkari plate was fresh and delicious! Service at this restaurant was also really great. The Momo’s and Soup were only decent to not so great. Get the Talkari maybe skip the others. Much better dumplings full of flavor at Paul Pelmeni.
This is a great place if you are looking for some different flavors. Nepalese and a bit of Indian cuisine and flavors. Great vegetarian options. Loved the Dal soup and combo platter we ordered. Samosas seemed a bit bland but overall ok.
Our first experience here was amazing. We love our server for his professionalism and the comfort food. I cleaned my plate quickly. Many options for vegetarians and non vegetarians! Will come back again!Food: 5/5
Food is pretty good w small portions and poor price point. The Nepalese tea was pretty watered down. Glad I tried and not mad about coming here but definitely wouldn't go back.
10/10 If I am a local, I would frequent this restaurant. Must order: - Chili chicken - Lamb Sikar - Momo non-veg version was super good - Dal Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Gf options
This is one of Madison's hidden gems! Food is excellent and you really can't go wrong here! The golden tea is must buy whenever I go because it's just so good!Food: 5/5
