This was the first time I’ve been here. I came just to see the waterfall. The girl behind the counter was incredibly nice and provided great directions to get to the falls. No backpack allowed and $5 for adult. It’s downhill and involves a few sets of stairs. Along the way you’ll see some fascinating rock structures. A little less then a mile to get there since the first outlook is closed due to repairs. This was easy enough for me and my 15 year old daughter. The waterfall was truly beautiful and a must see!
Big and mostly private sites. Utilities worked perfectly. Lots of roads and paths for walking and bike riding. Nice bathrooms and showers. Helpful staff. Wonderful being near High Falls waterfall. Everything you need for a great camping or RV experience.
A great local attraction hidden on a back road in Chateaugay, NY. This is a private campground/park and access to see the falls will cost you $5. The walk to the falls is nice, albeit a little sketchy at times and if you're not in shape, the walk back up will catch you out of wind. All in all, worth the small price of admission.
The owners have a lot to learn about how they treat people. Owning the campsite makes you no better than anyone else. We were looking to buy a camper off these folks they wasted my time and didn't even have the title on hand yet wanted me to pay on the spot, and refused to let me do a card transaction because they "didn't want to get ripped off" despite me being the one taking the risk with no title. I was talked down to the moment I arrived as well as a friend who was with me that was interested in purchasing a trailer, we went elsewhere and will never return, everyone I have spoke with said the new owners are rude.
We went for the waterfall only. Over 200 steps down some stairs that have been there a very long time. They're not dangerous but you need to pay attention. Admission cost for the falls only is $3/person.
An amazing little hidden gem. Steep but short little hike from the campground to the falls. Campsites all under tall trees with plenty of room. Some of the seasonal sites have some cool extensions so it's worth a walk around to see. Small pool but does the job on a hot day. Water quality was pretty good here 140ppm
My partner Peter and I visited the campground today for a walk to the waterfall. The young woman in the store was helpful and answered our questions. After reading other Google reviews I asked if taking photos were allowed. They are. I then asked if backpacks are allowed because one review said they aren’t. The review is correct, no backpacks. The reason is people bring food in wrappers or other items in and then leave garbage on the trail. Basically, a few disrespectful people ruin it for others. Now to the waterfall - absolutely amazing. There are also huge rock walls along the trail that are geological wonders. The main stairs were closed so we went down another set that led us to a trail along the Chateaugay river to the falls. We took the same trail back along the river, but took a trail up a hill that brought us into the camp. Back at the store, I met the owner and thanked her for allowing public access on her property. She was polite and very friendly. All in all, it was a wonderful walk with amazing natural wonders. My only recommendation would be better directional signage.
We have been going to High Falls twice for three years. It’s a clean very nice campground. We have enjoyed camping there and we have many friends that are seasonal campers there. This year our early twenty y.o. kids were with us. Our kids are very respectable young adults. If they did anything wrong I would not be sharing. We are from the area originally and the kids were excited to meet up with old friends. As the afternoon went on, the kids were coming and going from the campsite for various reasons, errands, etc. Not a lot, but maybe 3 times all in afternoon prior to 6:00 pm. The management deactivated their access card and told them they COULD NOT LEAVE the campground after 6:00. The kids left anyway and came home around 1 am and needed to buzz the office to enter. Understandably it was late, on a Sunday night, but it’s summer and we were on Vacation. If the card wasn’t deactivated there would be no issue. Our kids weren’t even sure that’s what management meant when the information was shared, it was so unusual. After leaving the next day we were called and told to not come back and find another place to camp. Very unfortunate; as we are good campers, never had any problems and didn’t know the rule about not leaving after 6:00, which honestly is made up and feel new owners just don’t want to be inconvenienced. I think the new owners have a many things to learn about customer service. Just wanted to share our less then satisfactory experience.
The management here is truly AWFUL!! We spent our entire stay dealing with gate issues and rude office staff. As well as the owner! A cranky man, who used profanity towards us. Threatening to kick us out, a trend I’ve seen in other reviews here, when he accused us of “speeding”. Never mind that the staff here drives around the property speeding on golf carts themselves. We are easygoing RVers who’ve stayed all over the country. However, we’ve never had an experience like this! The gate system is a total joke and was infuriating. The “manager” set up one of the cards wrong so it wouldn’t work at the gate, we asked for a replacement but got so much push back and attitude as if we were making it up. Then the manager chased us down like a mad woman, also speeding on her golf cart to inform us that our card is now deactivated because it didn’t recognize our license plate as we were in a friends vehicle. We never provided that information at checkin and saying the card was linked to a license plate number was a total LIE. Followed by a ridiculous explanation of how we can’t get back into the park after 6pm for the duration of our stay. Unheard of! We booked a week long stay in town for a wedding and your telling me that we can’t have any family/visitors come by our RV. They wanted to charge $5 pp - for what exactly, I don’t know! One of our friends just needed to pick up something for the wedding and it was such a headache. I understand they charge for the waterfall access in which the entrance is through the office but even that is disappointing considering that the stairs are currently CLOSED! Theres a sign displayed once you get to the steps but it wasn’t mentioned by the staff prior to the hike. We were really surprised to see this, because they just happily took our friends money without even mentioning it! It felt very misleading. I hope that the $5 fee they are charging is going towards fixing the broken stairs. Unfortunately, I don’t think it is and based on local knowledge these stairs have been out of service for sometime now. Yet, they advertise the “Falls” as if it’s perfect. Custom service here is nonexistent and the entire staff needs an attitude adjustment. Overall, it was a very frustrating week long stay. We felt insulted, unwelcome, and treated more like prisoners vs paying guest. Not recommended based on management. Trust the negative reviews! This place is not worth it!
They now charge you to see the water falls. Campers pay enough to allow the public to hike this without charge as they did before. You also have to pay to visit friends now. If I own the camp it should include the cost of friends visiting. It's kept up well and clean the staff is friendly.
