A good location if you're interested in the downtown area. The atmosphere is a bit seedy in the common areas. The dorms have a strong smell as if the carpet is dirty. The kitchen is ok, except that there's no dish soap or any way for guests to wash and sanitize their dishes. No hand santizer available in the food prep area, There is hand soap but no way to sanitize counter tops if someone preps raw meat. Because there's no dish soap someone washing a knife used to prep raw meat is potentially giving the next person to use it food poisoning. The fridges are crammed because there's no bins to organize food with. Parking is free overnight and on Sunday, but it's on the street and if you can't find any free parking there are private parking lots that will be happy to take your money.
Everyone at HI-Calgary was amazing!! All the staff and management was great! Very friendly! Rooms are spacious and location is nice! There’s a pool table, 2 computers as well as a movie room which I really enjoyed! There’s free breakfast from 8AM-9:30AM, and theres cafes/supermarket 1 block away! I highly recommend staying here !!nnThanks James and your amazing team
Can’t rate the room accurately because we didn’t stay - but staff at HI Calgary let us drop our bags for the day for such a low price while we explored Calgary. They gave us some amazing options for things to do in the city and were incredibly helpful. The place was clean and well organized! Thanks HI Calgary!
Stayed at Hi Calgary City Centre and overall, it was a good experience. The location is excellent, and there's affordable paid parking right next door. The stay was comfortable, and they provide breakfast, which was a nice touch. However, I had requested a ground bed when booking but was given an upper bed upon arrival. When I raised this, the staff didn’t accommodate my request, stating they were busy. Aside from that, everything else was fine.
Needed somewhere to drop our bags off while we roamed around the city waiting for the place we were staying to be ready. HI Hostel was so accommodating with letting us leave our stuff there. It was $5 each for every bag we had. Definite lifesaver! Unfortunately cannot rate the rooms because we never saw them.
