Very cute ice cream shop, you can tell they are very proud of the renovations they did. They have a wide variety of flavors. I got the vanilla soft serve with hot fudge which was good, but not as mind-blowing as I had been told it would be. Maybe I should have stuck to the hardserve ice cream flavors instead.
Herrell's made it into the Yankee Magazine as one of the 36 best cream shops to visit in New England. I had been here a few years ago but couldn't remember much about it. Once we got into the shop we figured out how to go about ordering some scream. There were plenty of workers behind the counter. After we worked our way into the service line a nice young lady asked if she could help us. She took one order and was off to make it. Another server came and asked if we were all set. I told her some of us hadn't ordered yet. She said we would have to wait for our original server to come back for the other orders. People behind us were passing us up as we waited for more orders to be placed. The roped off section was pretty tight, so there was a lot of elbow rubbing in there. After we were all paid up, we found a small table inside and and ate our ice cream. I had whipped cream and a cherry on top of my sunday. The chocolate fudge was nice but there was not nearly enough to satisfy my palate. The whipped cream must have been all natural because it had zero taste and didn't stand up well in my dish. The servings were overpriced for the size. This place didn't bring back any old memories but it did create one that will have me going elsewhere the rest of the summer.
Traveled from Florida to visit Family, we stopped by here for some delicious desert and the sizes are worth their price! All the ice cream is locally homemade and served with love. This store had a back entrance from Thorne's -- an underground shopping plaza which goes up three stories. I enjoyed my visit to Northampton Downtown and Herrell's Ice Cream & Bakery. ~ Today, I got a small cookies & cream dish with rainbow sprinkles, and I took my delicious time with each bite with the wooden spoon that is provided. Great area and I would visit again next time I travel!!!
We have enjoyed going to Herrell's to get delicious ice cream for years! For our daughter's birthday this year, we ordered a unicorn/rainbow ice cream cake. The cake was absolutely beautiful and super yummy - and everything our daughter could have hoped for. She kept telling us how much she LOVED it...made all of her birthday dreams come true!
Ice cream was nice, I tried the sampler which I highly recommend, it has 4 small scoops in one bowl and that way you can try different flavors all at once. I think the waitress misheard one of the flavors, but that's fine. Overall a great experience, would visit again!
The best ice cream in the Northampton area. If you haven’t tried the burnt sugar and carrot cake ice cream cake you are missing out!
I LOVE their ice cream, but holy cow they really rip you off. They charged me almost $4 to add hot fudge and marshmallow sauce on top. Almost $2 per topping. That’s insane! They didn’t even put much on top. I wish they charged a reasonable price : In response to the owner telling me that I would have saved money by ordering a sundae, I looked at your menu and you are right. I shouldn’t have to play games with how I put my order in to make sure I’m not being ripped off when I order my ice cream at the counter - you should default to giving me the best price that you’re willing to. I eat ice cream for enjoyment and being ripped off takes away a lot of the pleasure.

Each time we visit Northampton we try to stop at Herrell's for what we consider New England's best ice cream. Herrell's is one of the several reasons we are relocating from eastern Massachusetts to Northampton in 2020. The last two visits to Herrell's it was Malted Vanilla for me. Wow!
We recently celebrated a summer birthday with a Herrell’s ice cream cake.. They ask that custom orders be placed 10 days in advance. We were a little bit short of that but they agreed to make it anyway. They did a great job and it was delicious. We went pretty traditional with a layer of vanilla and another of strawberry.. In between we used fudge and cookie crumbs—So good!! Thank you to staff member Nora who made my phone order very easy. And to whomever decorated our cake—It was lovely—I would definitely order another one!!! I have just updated my review— I did not realize that I was incorrectly marking the stars Of course I want to rank our experience wit Herrell’s with 5 stars- If there were 6, I would check off that one too! So sorry for the confusion
