Stouffville is a great town but the school especially Harry Bowes is really bad. Bad protocol and practices in this school. Be mindful if your child is not good at protecting himself or herself as the school does not care much. School protocol does not want to take responsibility nor want your child to succeed. My child had 3 or 4 substitute teacher last year 2021 - 2022 while the home room teacher was gone after showing up for the first 2 months of the school year. Do they really expect subs to run a class when they do not even know the children? If your child is injured at school, pray that he/she is fine because the school will try to hide it. When it is not something they can hide they will slide the responsibility to something else even when you approach them.
Their staff need etiquette training. I hate going to this school as their staff are very unhelpful and rude. There isn't good guidance for parents. You just get slammed with messages a few days before school starts and have to figure out what is going on and what is needed. There buses are terrible. Always 20 to 40 min late. Someone who is an educator herself warned me not to send my child to this school. If it wasn't for French Immersion, I wouldn't have.
My daughter started going to school when she started French Immersion in grade 1 last school year. So far both her teachers have been awesome. They are constantly in touch with the parents and also very kind, helpful and generous with their time. She's been blessed with two teachers so far that are very active, offering various extra-curricular clubs for primary students. Their admonistrators are nice and helpful. Office staff are ok, although in many schools I've seen warmer and more welcoming office ambiance.
We recently moved from Markham to Stouffville and I moved my son from a private school in Markham to Harry Bowes. I had an in person meeting with the principal and the vice principal in advance. They are nice open minded people who listened and accommodated us where possible. My son is in grade 3 FI and he's been extremely happy so far! The principal even approached me the other day as I was dropping him off to let me know that my son had a great day 1 and that he is transitioning nicely! I was impressed and grateful that he cared enough to give me the update where he didn't really need to. So far I'm very happy with the school, staff and their attitude.
Hi, My grade 8 daughter was bullied by her grade 8 homeroom teacher. She is now going to the Stouffville Secondary High School and she is very happy and feels very safe. Now, my son of SK is being bullied by a student support worker - my son wanted to open the main entrance door. However, the worker stopped my son from opening the door and went into power struggle with my son. Last year, one of the KG teacher locked up my son in a dark room. And, he was so terrified that he had peed in his pants. The Vice-Principal is extremely rude and lacks basic etiquette of talking. The Vice Principal called my wife into her office without any formal appointment and started to shout - your son isn't ready for grade one. Your son isn't allowed to open the main door.
I went here. Concerts were live, I remember when TapNa$$ was in his prime debuting his hit cover of "Counting Stars"
My daughter teaches here. Great neighbourhood school. Great outdoor play areas. Plenty of extra curicular activities.
