Excellent family run small Chinese resto. We only ordered the Wor Won Ton soup, which was AMAZING AMAZING! I very highly recommend this one! Full of bbq pork, tons of vegetables, seafood, and won tons. The broth is delicious, better than many of the reviews I’ve done for comparable restos on the mainland. Very good number of won tons are given, so no worries there. Actually we were completely stuffed with just one bowl each, it is big portion size is excellent. Very fast and nice service, and appears very popular with the locals, there was lots of customers in and out. Definitely a great place to go when in Sooke for won tons! We will need to try more dishes at some point!
Great little gem out in Sooke BC, if you're in the mood for some classic Chinese food this is the place to go. Food was hot fresh and tasted exactly as I would have hoped. We called ahead on our way home from Langford. I highly recommend this place for a quick easy meal.
Excellent! Generous portions. Delicious food. Reasonable prices. Staff are very attentive and lovely people. Clean. Good variety on the menu. Lots of seating. Convenient location great for people watching too lol Unfortunately not the best parking out of their control but there is overflow parking into the next lot by the pharmacy just a few more steps away. They do dine in, take out and delivery. Highly recommend :
Fourth time ordering from here and missing our almond chicken and egg rolls. $125.00 meal and I had to send the delivery boy back for it. Extremely poor service. The boy was very sweet and accommodating but that’s it for us eating from there.
Last night we ordered for delivery chow mein, lemon chicken and beef and broccoli. We live 3 kms away from this place. We got instead fried rice, lemon chicken without any lemon sauce dry fried chicken and the beef and broccoli. We phoned to ask what happened and were told they could send the chow mein and also the sauce to go with the lemon chicken. After waiting at least 45 minutes, the driver got here and said we had to pay for this food too, despite it being the mistake of Happy Village Restaurant. We were rounding out an evening of decorating our Christmas tree with a treat of Chinese food. It was disappointing.
Here we go! I dont write reviews as upset customers do. But Im a good cook in the kitchen, and know my cast iron WOK. Blew $65 on Salt pepper squid, and 2 dishes of beef/Broccoli. I should of heated my cast iron Wok. Everything was super salty MSg. Next time, Im taking the time to make myself. Wife threw it out. I even picked it up ontime, 2 blocks away
Something has changed for the worst. We ordered regulary weekly from the restaurant but haven't ordered since November 2022 and today we just ordered takeout. We found the green beens to be dry and instead of shredded beef there were large chunks of beef and very little sauce, the chowmein was also dry and tastless and our other favourite bones SS pork had chunks of grisel in it. On top of it the price seems to have gone up. The prices always did make us think twice about ordering with a meal for 2 coming in at $60-$70 for 4 items but now that the prices are up and the quality is down it's no longer one of our go to places to order from. Parking: Less than 10 spots.
What can I say? I really do not like speaking badly of a local business but I owe it to you to make an informed decision and to the Restaurant to provide them an opportunity to improve to speak out. I will preface this review by noting that the owners of this restaurant only seem to respond to favourable reviews read previous reviews and I am not sure whether or not it’s because they don’t care or do not know how to handle criticism. Either way, here we go. My wife and I went there for a long overdue dinner for just the two of us. We chose to dine-in. It was not overly busy as most traffic seemed to be for pick up orders. There was just us and another table dining in. Once seated we waited approx. 10 minutes before the server re-approached us. She was pleasant but had few customer service skills. After being completely sticker shocked by menu prices even after the Covid inflation we settled on a pot of tea and for simplicity sake, the dinner for 3 in hopes of having some left overs to take home. The tea was tepid at best and nowhere near what a hot beverage should be served at. The meal took about 15 minutes from ordering to table. This built the anticipation of a soon to be presented hot and freshly prepared meal. The reality couldn’t have been further than expected. The food was barely warm enough to have come from under heat lamps let alone a stove. We have enjoyed Buffets with warmer food in the past! The food was dull and flavourless perhaps drowned from the amount of MSG used. The beef and greens had virtually a spattering of beef costs to high?? and the rice was brutal who can ruin rice?. After enjoying a second pot of tepid tea we were presented our bill….. $75.00 plus tax and expected gratuity! We are not old grumpy cheap customers, but we do expect value for our business. We expressed our concern regarding the experience to our server and yes we left a tip as the food quality and pricing are beyond her control and she shouldn’t be penalized matters beyond her control. We did express our displeasure in a quiet and tactful way. We will, however, not being giving this place another opportunity. The whole vibe seemed to be about extracting the most from the guest while providing sub-par quality food/services. Just a footnote: - we do not begrudge any business the opportunity to be profitable especially those that were so harshly effected by the Pandemic but do not play your customers as fools to make up all your losses experienced over 2 years on a single meal.
I had Beef and Broccoli with chowmein, my husband had szechuan Beef, everything was really very good. Big portion, quick and nice service. Great Chinese restaurant.
I don't mean to offend any other restaurants but I feel these guys make the best Chinese food around. They are always so kind to me when I come in and the food is always excellent. Thank you for bringing such quality to the Sooke community. Really appreciate you guys.
