Hampden Charter School of Science - East

I am a new student to this school and I got a very brief "tour" of the school. I transferred from another charter school two weeks into HCSS school year. There was little to no explanation of what was going on or how things worked. I am just uncomfortable with some of the staff. The students here are sweethearts and make things so much easier. The stress of this place makes you crazy. Some of the staff are fake and are a musty, fish food smelling mess.

I am a student who absolutely loves school for many reasons and when I was in other schools I've said that I hate school as well but I didn't ever really mean it. But this is the only school that I do not and will not ever say that I like, even after I graduate. The school is OD about literally every single thing and they say that all the things that they do is to give us a better education when in reality the disciplinary actions they give, no matter how big or small the offense is, affect our education a lot more than whether or not we have our shirts tucked in. And now with the recent schedule change, students do NOT have recess or time in between transitions to socialize with their friends and they are expected to wake up and go to school at 5 in the morning, which is earlier than most parents wake up to go to work. This school is absolutely ridiculous and it is not at all a good choice for your children's education and social life.

I was truly blessed with the teachers and staff here. I would recommend HCSS to everyone.

My son attended this horrific school one year ago. He now suffers insecurities about himself due to the fact that he was severely bullied and nothing was done about it. The teachers and principles weren't helpful at all. They made the school seem like it was great when in fact it's %100 worse than public. There's a teacher there that is extreamly racist. His name is Rodney Smith. He's made comments about how this should be a "black" world and how he didn't care what "white" parents thought about it. He made numerous racist comments to the class! It's horrible that a school would hire such a horrible individual. I would love to know if any other students have experience this horrible behavior. This needs to be put to an end.
