Hamilton GO Station is a clean and well-maintained transit hub. It offers frequent bus service to Square One, though buses to Waterloo and Kitchener are less frequent—so checking the schedule in advance is recommended. The staff is excellent, and there’s a comfortable seating area to cool down in the summer or stay warm in colder weather. The station is not too busy, making for a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. There is also a washroom available for convenience. Plus, with the train station located right beside the bus terminal, transfers are easy. Its downtown location makes it highly accessible.
Only staffed by security and traffic guides NO Washrooms. No toilets on the way on the buses, none available before you depart or arrive. Security directs you to a nearby Tim Hortons.nVery poor signage and bus platforms are only announced just before boarding, about 5 minutes before departure. Several routes arrive and depart from this terminal. So good luck.nnBus arrive quite late and the terminal is closed at 8 pm. It's a bit of a walk in a sketchy neighborhood to the front of the building where you might catch a cab or Lyft driver.nnThis what happens when you contact our to a private company, profits over safety and comfort.nShame on Metrolinx
They won't unlock the bathrooms because they don't have security - just a customer service agent telling a bus full of travellers to walk to the single stall at the John St. Tim Hortons. This is unacceptable - travellers need bathrooms and the city of Hamilton is passing it's workload onto Tim Hortons employees instead of either paying security or allowing customer service agents to manage a bathroom key. Whatever excuse they give for not being able to do this - remember they're just passing the problem onto Tim's staff instead of dealing with it.
You'll get where you need to go as long as you know everything about your trip beforehand. Place is in need of renovations. Signage is a little lacking indoors and is almost non-existent outdoors. You have to make sure you're on the correct side of the platform and just have to wait for the parked buses to turn on and display numbers to find the right one. Check Google Maps regularly in the hours leading up to your bus so you don't miss it: the PDF schedule online is completely wrong. Was trying to take the 16 to Union and was aware it was only once an hour, but the time was incorrect on PDF and screen signage indoors was not displaying next bus time. Was forced to taxi all the way to Toronto. Place is also sketchy after dark with the homeless trying to find someplace to sleep. Pretty sure I witnessed someone making a call for drugs on the public phones.
Staff does what they can, but it is feeling the effects of Hamilton's growing housing crisis as people with nowhere left to go need to shelter here when it's open. Still pretty clean, except for the bathrooms. Bus that's kind of just how bus stations are in my experience.
