Story

Hamilton Community Legal Clinic was launched on April 1, 2010. Our not-for-profit organization is an amalgamation of the three independent community legal clinics that had been operating in the City for over thirty years, Dundurn Community Legal Services, Hamilton Mountain Legal & Community Services and McQuesten Legal & Community Services. The clinics merged so they could provide legal services to more low income Hamilton residents.

Also in 2010, the Clinic and the Centre de santé communautaire Hamilton/Niagara (CSCH/N) reached an agreement for the delivery of French language poverty law services in Hamilton. The Clinic is bilingual and has a French language team. With the support of the CSCH/N we do outreach to stay connected with the Francophone community in Hamilton.

The clinic is run by a volunteer board of directors and we are funded by Legal Aid Ontario. All help is private and confidential.

The Hamilton Community Legal Clinic is a publicly funded institution geared towards helping people on low incomes. They can help with matters involving odsp appeals and reviews and Landlord and tenant matters, to name a few.The staff are overall very friendly and considerate and truly focus on the best possible outcome for their clients..It may not always be the expected result for the client but then again the legal process is sometimes full of uncertainty.I personally have complete faith in the clinic and only wish there was more funding for them by the government and private sources,as this would allow them no doubt to expand and even help more people..Bottom line this place is awesome and I personally thank them for all their hard work and the role they play for the citizens of Hamilton!!

If it happens complain to the Ombudsmen What is legal is service and you do have the right to that I am retraining my education after being a mother of 4 with a special education challenged child. I have had to negotiate for my child and against people who are "targeting" to remove funding from those programs. I know when I am hear bias or prejudice. I also know when you walk into a conversation and you are being referred to as "she" and they arent introducing themselves or listening that a prearranged deal, program or funding agenda exists. I felt insulted when I discovered that the lawyer went to the trouble to pretend to misunderstand. Since I did bring in the proof & then I got sent a letter that I didnt while in the office I saw it the file. Dates were changed on a letter to pretend that they didnt have to address fixing the issue. Telling someone their confused when your style is to ask random questions to intimidate isnt service either. Human rights issues around housing divorce or missing people isnt something where the agenda of vetting or no service and empty offices or no advocates to problem solve the ( other issues ) created by any govt or public error of law. That is not compassionate or service orientated. When the bias can result in education loss of privilege or homelessness BACK ROOM DEALS or open insults are unprofessional. It is however research for grant money that "scews "the results and that is an interesting choice. Other large cities dont have these issues because they took the funding and implemented people based programs. You do serve the people. If you harm someone that results in hospital stay it costs more than a legal appointment. Be more respectful of how you are honoring your community. Your front office staff must be so embarrassed to sit there every day and witness such contempt for your own community members. Poverty bias is a form of discrimination and so is asking about so do you have a drivers license when it isnt related to the case. It is a screening device? If the next question is do you have a passport then they are really asking if you are a criminal?

Called for information to speak to somebody. They asked me to leave my name and number and somebody would get back to me. Nobody ever messaged back. Not quite the service I was looking for. Maybe next time. Thank you

I originally gave a bad review, but due to recieving the help/information needed; I had to change my opinion and review. Although, it did take a while to recieve a response; they went out of their way to contact me on a Saturday.

Hard to contact your lawyer. Otherwise fantastic! They take their time to make sure you understand every inch of what is going on.
