I had a life-threatening experience on the bus from Montreal to New York City, which departed on December 23rd. When we boarded the bus, the temperature in the cabin was barely above 0 Celsius, and the driver assured us that it would warm up shortly. Around 45 minutes after we departed, the temperature didn't rise one bit. We then approached the border with the US and stayed an extra hour in line which isn't anyone's fault, but the bus was as cold as when we left Montreal. I could see the temperature indicated on the screen at the driver's cabin - it was 41 Fahrenheit, around 4 degrees Celsius, equal to the temperature in the fridge. The driver repeatedly dismissed the issue, reassuring me it would warm up. It never did! Over seven hours of struggle in such conditions without admitting to the issue. I was unprepared for such extreme conditions and wore socks and jeans without any extra layers of clothes. While the bus was in motion, I couldn’t even move; my legs, knees, and toes were hurting so much that they became numb and itching. I was crying from pain! We kept driving till Albany, where we stopped at 7-30 am and were promised to get inside the terminal to warm up a bit while the mechanic was supposed to figure out the heating problem. In reality, the terminal was closed, the mechanic wasn't there, and whoever was there couldn't resolve the issue. People were left outside waiting in brutally cold weather about -20 Celsius; a few of us refused to leave the bus and stayed inside because it was warmer than the temperature outside about 0 Fahrenheit or -20 Celsius. The situation is beyond any possible explanation or reasoning and could lead to fatal consequences. I'm looking for other passengers who took that bus on the night of December 23rd, to group and file an official complaint and bring Greyhound to court!!! I made numerous attempts to get in touch with them and sent the feedback form, but sure enough, no one got in touch with me or followed up on this case. The call center blocks your number once they hear the word "complaint", without an option of talking to a real person.
Just had a terrible experience with Greyhound Montreal. My brother-in-law’s trip to Boston was cancelled today because of the snow storm. He was told at the station that he’s automatically going to be on the first bus leaving Montreal tomorrow morning at 8am. He asked for a new ticket but was reassured he didn’t need one and should just show up to the station tomorrow morning. I decided to call the contact center to get confirmation, only to find out his trip had not been rescheduled. We then asked what was available, and the only available bus leaves tomorrow 5:15pm, and will take 19hours to arrive Boston. Meanwhile there is a bus that leaves Montreal tomorrow at 7am which he probably would have confined had he been given the right information at the station, but is now fully booked. My brother-in-law has a flight to catch from Boston and is now at risk of missing his flight as a result. This is the worst customer service anyone should ever have to experience. Extremely disappointing!
I was really scared to use this service after seeing all of the extremely negative reviews; however, I was pleasantly surprised with my trip from Montreal to Burlington. Maybe I was just lucky… The bus came on time, had heating and we got to the Burlington stop early. It was a smooth and easy process. I cannot speak for my trip back to Montreal, but so far so good! The bus driver was also friendly.
I should leave on December 30- 2022 from Montreal to boston at 8:00 am I give the date because probably someone reading my comment was also one of us . They canceled the bus without any other alternative. we didn’t receive any email before, we were advised that the bus is canceled while we waited in line to board, it was like 10 minutes before boarding. no other alternative was given it was the worst customer service’s experience in my life. Everyone was there without knowing what to do. Greyhound could at least give us an hour later , but just canceling it’s very very disappointing My note is literally 0/10
So I had a trip from Montreal to Chicago. According to the booking the whole trip should’ve took a maximum of 36 hours. It ended up taking me 3 days to reach chicago. 3 DAYS!! They canceled my bus in nyc to buffalo at 12 midnight… so imagine you’re a student on budget for your vacation and you were forced to pay for a hotel room in nyc at 12 midnight on a Friday. Wait wait we are not done yet. They gave me a reroute after my Buffalo bus got canceled. This reroute involved way more buses and long stops. I had to stay in Harrisburg for 8 hours just so they could tell me that the bus got delayed for an hour. I was like an hour is fine its something i can work with. So i leave from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh. I arrive to Pittsburgh and a bus is supposed to take me to Cleveland for my final bus. Little did i know that the bus got delayed for 4 hours. So i ended up not catching my final bus in Cleveland to Chicago so they rescheduled my ticket for the afternoon bus. I ended up being late for my hotel reservations in chicago and all my plans were ruined. Let alone the amount of exhaustion i felt. I mean three days between buses and terminals. Trust me if I knew how bad their services and timings would be, i would’ve paid the $400 for a plane ticket and I suggest you’d do the same.
BEWARE OF GREYHOUND TAKE ANOTHER BUS IF YOU CAN I took a four-day trip to Canada to visit my friend. The bus had no Wi-Fi but the employees were nice. All in all getting to Canada was fine. It wasn’t luxurious but I got there in one piece. On the last day my friend brought me to the station and the bus is supposed to leave at 5:15 however they canceled the bus a half hour after being there waiting for it. We found out that no buses arrive that day and no one from Greyhound chose to alarm any of the customers that day that no one was getting a ride home back to United States. Keep in mind many of the passengers were either elderly or in large groups with their families who had children. Customer service doesn’t exist every employee we talk to has been unapologetically rude and dismissive. Any accommodation for a hotel for the night was not given or a bus the following day. No one told us anything the station that had to do with a problem helped me more than their company itself. So not just me but hundreds of other people are standing in Canada for an extra day with no way to reach anybody. There are customers like me who also had no money left and no place to say for the night. All I can say is if you’re going to travel with greyhound, bring an extra pair of clothes, an extra 100 dollars or 200 and fall out of work for a couple days after your trip. I still don’t know if I’m going home tomorrow.
On December 1, 2022, Greyhound and partner FlixBus for buying tickets in Canada and elsewhere changed the "ticket change" fee from six dollars to TWENTY dollars, which makes the change fee almost the value of the ticket when going from Montreal to Burlington. Also to change the dates of a round trip, they charge you the fee twice. Effectively this means there is no reasonable flexibility with these tickets if you have any uncertainty in your schedule, even though the website portrays bus tickets as changeable up to 15 minutes before departure. Also terrible customer service.
Really disappointed! Unacceptable situation!! Booked trip from Montreal to Boston with a departure at 8 a.m., we were told at the time of departure that the bus was broken down and the trip canceled. No solution to offer no other buses before 4 days. We are reimbursed but not for related costs hotel, activities, etc.. If I could put 0 stars I would have.
Worst bus company in North America. I arrived with a 33 hours delay to my final destination, and had to wait for 13 hours in a gas station before they booked a room in a hotel. They didn't refund my ticket, claiming that my trip wasn't delayed or canceled. It was the worst travel experience I had.
Horrible experience at the US/CA border. The bus driver did not count the number of passengers on the bus after the immigration checks and the driver left me at the border at 5am in the morning, on a Sunday, no way to contact the driver or the customer service. How irresponsible and unprofessional. The officers at the border could not help me as well and I had to call one of my friends from Montreal at 5am to pick me up. Avoid Greyhound at all costs unless you have no other option and make sure you tell the driver when you get down for immigration checks to take a head count.
