Great food and experience. Had Eggs Benedict. Classic breakfast and Granite Breakfast both great! Tea came in little pots, orange juice glasses were cool, coffee refills during meal. Live music during breakfast playing kinda like Land and Sea intro tone. Decent value.
Awesome fish and chips with great service! We were there on a live music Friday and saw Andrew LeDrew and Kalem Mahoney. A great act!
Firstly, the view of St. John's waterfront was absolutely stunning! The waitress was very attentive and friendly; she suggested a cocktail that my wife truly enjoyed. The place isn't too big to be considered as cozy. There was very calming live music being played ..and the artist was really good! The fish and chips were perfect; batter crunchy and light and the fish very fresh. We will be returning!
Nice place for a beautiful view and an evening out with a friend and easy parking downtown. Decor and atmosphere is open, modern, and a little on the quiet side. Bar is well stocked as far as I could tell. Staff was very friendly and happy. Not pretentious at all which is sometimes a problem downtown I find. We only had boozy coffee and desserts... they were attractively plated and served. Not over the top either. Even brought my 13 month daughter along and she was welcomed. Though I dont know if I would call it a family place.... Prices are about middle of the way for a restaurant in St. John's. Not sure what the main menu is like... will have to investigate next time. :
Affordable but classy. Loved the aesthetic and the view is lovely. I found the food to be a bit rudimentary and overall rather underwhelming. Not bad but definitely not on par with the food quality you come to expect in Newfoundland.
It wasn't great and was way over priced. The view was gorgeous but my eggs came with a hair, the salt fish cakes were like the brine and I the coffee mugs were so small I think they were meant to be on the kids menu.
Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken supreme and the entertainment! Lovely place to go on a Friday or Saturday night.
We made reservations for dinner this evening. Upon arrival we we're told that they were only offering the Valentine's special and that we couldn't purchase from the menu. We didn't want any of those items, so unfortunately we we're left with the decision to leave. If we were alerted if this while booking a reservation, it would have save much time!
From the ample antipasto plate to the calamari, fish and chips, halibut cakes, risotto and deadly carrot cake - every moderately priced mouthful was perfect - and so were the Chianti wine and cosmos specially prepared by our amazing female server Lindsay?. Adding greatly to our group's relaxing evening was the amazingly gifted sound and charms of the Dana Parsons Trio, in a perfect ambience where we felt warmly welcomed and uplifted by the full view of our harbour - the weekend night we all needed. Could not have been in any way better. We will return! And the Hallidays tomorrow night - WOW!
We went here for brunch today. We were one of three occupied tables in the restaraunt and I can see why. 3/4 people had ok food. But, the awful manager ruined the meal for everyone. I ordered steak and eggs and I ordered the steak cooked medium. When the steak got to the table, I cut into it and didn't see any pink. I switched to the middle of the steak and it was still only the slightest tint of pink. So, I sent it back. The table all agreed and the wait staff did too that it was slightly overcooked. I waited and got another. This one came and I cut right into the centre. It was more well done than the last one. The waitress and one of her more senior colleagues came over and both agreed it was, once again, over cooked. Five minutes later, the general manager came over to my table. I didn't get his name. But he tells me that he just checked the temperatures on both steaks and that they were "bang-on" and cooked perfectly. I advised him that no, they were not cooked perfectly. Six or more people had seen the steaks and everyone agreed they were well done, not mid rare. He was agresive and dismissive. Kept offering to go get the two old steaks to try and prove to me that they were medium, when clearly they weren't. When I didn't agree to let him bring out some cold old steaks to try and prove me wrong in the dining room, he said that there was clearly no reason to try and cook me another steak and asked if I wanted anything else. Obviously I told him to strike my order from the bill and didn't get anything else. Thankfully his wait staff all apologised for his horrible behaviour. Credited me back for the coffee I drank and gave me a discount on my partner's meal. With management like that, this restaraunt should not be open. He attempted to embaras me infront of an empty dining room and made the whole table feel awkward and put on the spot. The man needs a new job. Pretty sure the restaraunt is closing down, and I can see why that is too. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing if that's how he treats people. Plain and simple.
