Since 1886 the Gouverneur Reading Room Association has been serving the educational and recreational reading and viewing needs of the community.
The Reading Room Association of Gouverneur has been serving the area since 1886, and the current building was built in 1900. The loft was renovated in 2008, transforming it from an attic into a warm and inviting reading and meeting space. Materials - Whether you’re searching for adult fiction or non-fiction, children’s books, or young adult books, we have you covered! Are newspapers and magazines more your speed? Our loft is the place for you! The North Country Library System website - https://catalog.ncls.org/client/nclscat - has access to local newspapers, free online classes, and can be used to renew items or put them on hold.
Computers - Eight desktop and two laptop computers are available for public use. Online databases include EBSCO, NYS Historic Newspapers, and links to job resources. All of our computers have internet access and all desktops are hooked up to our printers - .25 per page black and white, .5o per page for color – as well as a scanner.
Loans Periods and Fines -
Books & Magazines – 28 days, .10 fine per day.
DVDs & Video – 7 days, .50 fine per day
New DVDs – 2 days, .50 fine per day
Audio Books – 14 days, .10 per day
Music CDs – 7 days, .10 per day
Also available: copies (black and white: .25 per page, and color - .5o per page) and faxing - $2.oo for the first page and $1.oo for every page after - done while you wait. A ramp is located in the rear of the building, and two wheelchair lifts make sure that the entire library is handicapped accessible.
