Exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to jump off a dock into a deep, dark lake - the iconic Ontario cottage experience - but I don’t have a cottage. Gould Lake to the rescue! There is a small beach for those who want shallow water or just like to ease in but just around the corner projecting off a rocky point is a long T shaped wood dock. The water seems very deep still would not recommend diving! with no weeds and quite warm in late August. The lake is surrounded by gorgeous Ontario woodland with not a cottage in sight. Facilities are minimal but who cares? Overcast day so we had the lake to ourselves. 100% perfect lake swim!
Ample parking. Trail was a bit difficult to navigate in some areas as tree markers weren’t always easily visible. During the hike there are many spots for scenic photography. Pretty easy hike that even someone who isn’t in shape could still have fun doing.
Free version of Fortenac provincial park, would recommend winter tires and awd if snow is bad since there is a massive hill to the park. Overall fun place to drive to and hike.
Gorgeous location that captures the essence of the Canadian Shield. Lots of hiking trails around the lake which are of varying levels of difficulty and usually quite quiet at the time of writing. The day use area has a large field and small sand beach and can be busy on a hot summer day, but not over crowded. If you have a canoe or want to hike around the lake there are some great secluded spots for swims or picnics. Definitely a place you need to check out if you live in the Kingston-Frontenac region!
Great conservation area, beautiful and a variety of paths we have yet to explore. Spent a couple of hours on one path, one follows along the lake and was beautiful. Our hike was a couple of days ago, wonderful autumn colours. We will return in the spring and explore more.
Amazing view in winter when the entire lake is covered in snow Have been there for a couple of times just a perfect place for chilling down
This place is a hidden gem. So peaceful and beautiful. Hikes are easy, but don't bring your stroller or anything on wheels because there are lots of tiny roads through the forest or around the lake.
Beautiful conservation area, hiking trails, lakes. Rideau trail goes thru here! Some benches along the way with lovely views. Elevated and steep in areas, be prepared when going out on the trail, some places cell reception may not work.
Lots of interesting trails. Had a great snowshoe... Some trails had some difficult hills.
A little chunk of unblemished nature. Featuring hiking trails that lead around old quartz and mica mines. Swim in the crystal clear spring fed lake. Rent a canoe for $8/hr. A wonderful day trip if you want to go somewhere that isn't crowded with people. One of the area's best kept secrets.
