Went here to buy takeout for my friends birthday And luckily it wasn't far from her house cause they got the order half wrong the first time. I called and they said to come in and grab the rest of it but then they didn't have anymore fufu by the time I got my order again. I really was disappointed by that at first but the food was amazing. They accidentally gave us a whole fish on our first trip there and I must say...best mistake ever. That fish was so well seasoned and it honestly opened my horizons cause I'd usually say hell nah to a fish w the head still attached. I loved everything...the dibi chicken, djolof rice, the mafe, and my soupe kandje... but that fish was the best honestly.
Absolutely delicious. My partner and I came here for lunch on Sunday and wow! It was our first time and we will definitely coming back. We got the vegetarian curry and the yassa red snapper whole fish with a side of plantains and the bissap drink. I can’t wait to come back and try everything else. Service was nice and friendly- great vibe! Thanks for a wonderful lunch
Gorée Cuisine is a family-owned Senegalese restaurant located in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago. The restaurant has been in business for more than nine years and is known for its authentic Senegalese cuisine, reasonable prices, and friendly service. I have eaten at Gorée Cuisine a few times before writing this review. The other times I’ve came I ordered the Vegetarian Plate with a choice of 3 sides. Today I dined in and my plant-based choice was the vegetarian Thiou Curry, which came with Carrots, potatoes, yucca with a mixture of spices, onions and curry, a bed of white, and a cup of Gingembe to drink. I loved everything and needless to say, I cleaned my plate. The food at Gorée Cuisine is delicious and flavorful. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant also has plant-based, vegan, and non-vegan options to choose from. The service at Gorée Cuisine is friendly and attentive. The staff is always happy to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations. Overall, I had a great experience at Gorée Cuisine. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Senegalese meal. Here are some additional details about my experience at Gorée Cuisine: The restaurant is clean and well-maintained. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and flavorful. The prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend Gorée Cuisine to anyone looking for a great Senegalese meal.
This place was amazing, and not too expensive. I've never had Senegalese food before, but the flavors were phenomenal. Even the veggie sides were packed with flavor. The side cabbage ended up being one of my favorites. I got the chicken curry and my wife got the house tiebou dejun and the were both amazing. Will definitely come back.
Our family stopped by Goree on our Chicago vacation having never eaten Senegalese cuisine before and ordered the Yassa Lamb, Maffe, and Saka Saka and thoroughly enjoyed them all! The service and ambience were also fantatstic. Would definitely recommend!
I woke up craving African cuisine. This was the only African restaurant on the south side of Chicago with an excellent rating and it did not disappoint. I typically go up North for African cuisine but never again. I’ll be back soon for more Red Snapper, peanut soup and mint tea. Top 5!
My brother ask me did I want some lamb and I lit up and said yes, did you have to ask! Lol, I had the Dibi lamb and Jollof rice All I can say if you have not tried them you are missing out on some amazing food full of flavor! The Bissap and Ginger drinks leave you speechless! 1st time but want be my last I will become a regular for the few months I’m here working!!!
My first time trying Senegalese cuisine and everything was super tasty!!! I wanted to try everything haha but my favorite was the peanut butter veggie maffe OMG SO GOODRecommended dishesSenegalese Mint Tea, Vegetarian Maffe
Very satisfied with the food and the experience. The waiter was very polite. For my appetizers I had the fataya which is battered salmon patties. It comes with a spicy dipping sauce. I like spicy food but if you’re not into spicy food the dip will be too hot for you. I enjoyed the fataya. For my dinner I had the Yassa Fish tilapia with a side of djolof rice. Everything was good. I’m so sad though because I had my djolof rice in a to-go box and forgot it at my table. Definitely recommended coming here.
I am a Senegalese living in the US and obviously I miss food from home. I went to visit Chicago and one of my friends suggested Goree cuisine. I am so happy I got to that place. The food was so good and I found myself saying this feels just like home. I took with me my non Senegalese friends and they also really liked the food. One of them even asked me if I would be willing to make Mafé with her once we get back from our trip. The prices were really affordable and the food abundant. We were able to eat dinner and still keep some leftover for the next day. Cherry on top, the staff was so friendly and the space homy. I highly recommend Gorée cuisine to anyone wanting to try good West African food from Senegal!!
