It would be unfair to compare this establishment to a 'normal' motel. The Gopher Prairie is the type of place my grandfather might have stayed in the 50s when he and his buddies went fishing or hunting and just wanted a reasonably comfortable room to crash in at the end of each day. While times have changed, this place hasn't, but then neither has its nightly rate.
Price is the major - really the only - advantage this friendly but tired motel has to offer. For slightly more than half the cost of the chain motels in Alexandria, it was worth the 50 mile daily round trip when I visited a relative in Alexandria recently. But only because I was traveling alone, I'd never take a lady friend here. The carpet was permanently soiled, probably by greasy work boots, the shower wasn't clean, there were cigarette burns in the linoleum floor in the bathroom and in the blanket. On the other hand the mattress was surprisingly comfortable, the heat/ac wall unit worked well, and the remote that operates it was a nice touch. A nice big flat screen contrasted with an ancient but functional microwave. For a cheapskate like me, I found it a good deal, but only because of the ridiculous rates charged by the chain motels in Alexandria.

This place is not bad ..However being scalded when showering is never fun and the noise factor from the interstate and particular live Ins ..no noise insulation whatsoever. Beds need some updating but overall not bad .Inexpensive and the owners are very nice.

Nice clean American family owned. Very nice people. I was broke down at Kenworth shop late at night temperature in the single digits. No shuttle service at any motel in town, no taxi service in town. My company called this motel explained the situtation i was in, the owners came to my truck and picked me up.
