I never write bad reviews but unfortunately I had a terrible experience when I came in on Sunday Nov 10th. I noticed two items that I was purchasing had the original tag left on them from the dollar store that said $4. The new price said $3.79. I thought Goodwill was meant to help low income families and people that want to save. A 20 cent difference is ridiculous! When I politely spoke with the manager about this she gave me attitude and basically said that the items were already discounted and that she wasn't going to discount them any further. The way she spoke down to me as a customer was absolutely disgusting. What is the point of going to Goodwill when all I will be saving is a measly 20 cents?! The item was cheaply made, appeared used with scuff marks and a few rips and your getting your merchandise for FREE. How do you price these items anyway? Those specific items should have been half price and the manager needs to check her attitude when speaking to people.
I love coming here but this place is either a hit or a miss. Sometimes you can find great finds and sometimes there is nothing to choose from but everyone likes something different. You can find something here for any age group and the staff is super friendly. The store is very clean and well taken care of. There is free parking out front.
This particular store was unfortunately very disappointing. The prices are crazy for what you are offered! The majority of merchandise in this store is stained/dirty. Maybe the items need to be more thoroughly checked before coming onto the floor?
I purchased a mantel clock on Friday for a Xmas gift. It was boxed as if it came directly from a store. Thankfully I decided to try it that night and found it didn’t work after trying 3 new batteries. I bought it assuming it had been checked. Obviously not. When I took it back the weekend store manager who was coming up with different excuses why they won’t accept a return depending on what I said. I questioned her about checking items before putting the out. She said the did. Then she said the tag was removed so she couldn’t tell if it was sold”as is”. Then she said I may not have even bought it there so I went home and dug the ticket out of the garbage. When I went back she looked at the tag and said they always put all clocks out because some people want parts but nothing is put on the item to say “not working” or “for parts only”. I then said I wasn’t paying for their garbage and she said ‘then why do people give them garbage’? Her last comment after nothing else made sense was ‘we’re a thrift shop and it’s sales final. I guess that meansI have to give them money for things that don’t work when I can’t afford it? Do I call it a demanded donation? I’m a pensioner and there is no money for extras. That’s why I go to Goodwill! I try to spread out the cost for Xmas gifts by buying one. here and there. So beware consumers, I found most thrift shops have noted right on the items that they were checked or the item doesn’t work. Now we know Goodwill Strathroy does not check their electronics or electric/battery items and will not take back the junk they sold to you. I would think this would be illegal! I also believe Strathroy Goodwill requires a new weekend manager who has better customer service skills.
Prices went up a bit. The selection is good lot of people had been cleaning up for the winter & donating. Large selection of china, artwork & very good book selection. First Tuesday of the month is Seniors Day 25% off. They need to hire an additional person & have the carts disinfected properly rather then piling up at the door entrance!!!
