I have only been at Glen Cairn for a matter of months and I feel the need to address the poor budgeting plan and lack of educational support at this school. To begin with the budgeting, the school spends over $1000 on band chocolate and school trips each year and turns off heat in the middle of winter to save money. However, we do not even own our own gym. As per the quality of education, the board seems to ignore that the majority of teachers aren’t properly explaining concepts and looking down on kids who struggle to learn things for themselves as they are not being assisted. Personally, my teacher encourages kids to ask questions but answers them sarcastically and like they are stupid.

bruh they took away the only good teacher / and teachers yell at you for no reason and tell really bad jokes / “certain” teachers pick favourites and make you fill up their water bottles and don’t teach anything just give worksheets / you’re not even allowed to go to the bathroom / they think they’re preparing you for high school when half the stuf they tell you about high school isn’t even true / plus once the principal threatened to pop my balloon :(

Glen Cairn is a school with many issues that need to be resolved. My time there personally wasn't too bad, but that was only because I was very well behaved and got good grades. Even so, I had a few problems, and my classmates did as well. 1) Poor supervision. During recess, many events occurred that could have been avoided if the teachers simply paid attention to what was going on around them. I've heard curse words and other hateful things screamed across the yard. This happened more than once and it was the same people doing it over and over again. Nothing was done about it, despite the fact that half the school could hear it happening. Many people were bullied, and while it may be hard to spot at times, staff should really make an effort to protect students from those situations. In the cases where students were actually caught verbally or physically hurting others, little was done about it. Oftentimes, students simply got a warning for behavior that I feel deserved a suspension. I've heard of more than one case where students have been slapped, tackled, choked, or otherwise harmed and the people behind it were not/were minimally punished. In the rare cases where suspensions did occur, they usually lasted for only a day or two. It's a rather dangerous environment, in my opinion, and I wish the teachers would keep a closer watch on what students were saying/doing to each other. 2) Unnecessary punishments. If you've read the other reviews, you've already seen the complaint that students get their devices taken away and/or sent to the office for no reason. This is completely true and happens almost daily. I once saw a student get in trouble for saying "hello" and waving to a teacher in the hallway. There was also a joke around the school where students would make a certain loud noise now and then. It was rather funny and not too disruptive, but one of my teachers didn't seem to think so and outright banned the noise/word. I noticed that some of my classmates were quieter in class by the end of the year because they were always afraid of getting in trouble for something as minor as a joke. 3) Teachers favouring certain students. This one was never a problem for me, personally, but I've definitely seen it happen to others and found it very unfair. Students whose grades were average or below average were treated worse than those with better grades. This, I feel, discourages academic improvement and instead makes the students feel worse and perform even more poorly than they originally did due to uncertainty and stress. I feel that a teacher's job is to help those who are struggling in school instead of putting them down and sending them to the office more often. Teachers even mocked certain students at times for getting a question wrong, which I found to be rather unprofessional and plainly rude. I hope that this is addressed and fixed at some point, because it caused real problems for quite a few students. All in all, I didn't like Glen Cairn, and I hope changes are made to ensure that future students have a better experience than I, and many others, did.

I find issue with the teachers spreading their political views in a distburding way that makes students with a more conservative view feel left out and unwanted. They also give us work sheats that are very left wing and just retarded such as "islamiphobia and transgenger identity" I get that we live in Canada a very liberal country but you should introduce both sides and let the child choose there opinion instead of only teaching the liberal point of view

this school is not good, teachers have favorites, give you grade 11 work, wont let you go to the washroom, even turns off heat in middle of winter to save money. don't let you pick up snow, ridiculess rules. only teacher i liked had to leave:(, unnecessary punishments for no reason, doesn't even own their gym. Also its freezing cold in the gym.
