Stopped in randomly with my husband on the way home today since neither of us felt like cooking dinner. Dining room is simple, comfortable and clean, in a great location from downtown but unfortunately the views aren't the best, haha. That's totally out of their control, though, and there was lots of great light coming in to make the place cheery! Staff were very friendly and asked right away if we had any special dietary requirements. We were seated fairly quickly, despite the restaurant being almost full and not having a reservation. Unfortunately once seated with menus it took quite a while to be served again; A table of 4 came in after us and were seated, had orders taken and were given waters/cutlery while we sat waiting for someone to return to our table. When someone did finally come back to take our orders we were given water but no cutlery or napkins. Our appetizer arrived and once finished they came to clear the plate and then realized we had no napkins or cutlery. Perhaps they were short staffed or something but it was a bit disappointing to seem to be missed with a larger table receiving better service across the room. Our food was... food. The Pho seemed overly greasy and the sprouts were at the bottom of the bowl so they lost their snappy freshness in the hot broth; everything just seemed soggy, overcooked and bland. I was hungry, so I ate it, but I remarked to my husband that it seemed almost like the 'Chef Boyardee' version of Pho compared to the various other Vietnamese/Asian restaurants I've been to.
Went to this place for my wife’s birthday. The location is very modern and newly-renovated with a wheelchair access ramp. There’s plenty of seating inside, and the decor is very fresh, modern, and undeniably Thai! We we t on a Saturday night during St. Patty’s day weekend, so the place was packed! Despite this, we only waited four minutes for our table, and then we were seated. Appetizers came out quickly; within 10-15 minutes of ordering, and mains followed soon after 10 mins after the mains. The northern Thai egg noodles were very tasty, and we ordered them hoping they’d be similar to Khao Soi they are similar, but not identical. The basil chicken was delicious! The veggies were tender and succulent, with the perfect balance of crunch and heat. The chicken was also very tasty, however there were some pieces that tasted a bit rubbery as if they had been boiled. The strange part - the chicken did t come with any rice, so I had yo order it separately on the side. The fried banana with ice cream was delicious; not overly sweet or otherwise over the top, but instead the perfect blend of umami, sweetness, and savoury. Some pro-tips; make a reservation beforehand, and irder rice as a side if your dish doesn’t come with any!
Amazing Thai food! The portions are large, the flavours are excellent, and there are so many good vegetarian options. The tofu cashew dish is 10/10
This is one of the best restaurants you can tryin St. John’s. The food is very fresh and tasty. Nice and cozy restaurant with positive vibe. I ordered B2 which is Basil beef and it was really good.
I have been dreaming about their vermicelli noodle bowl with spring rolls ever since they left Halifax. I'm so happy to report that the dish is as delicious as I remember it! I can't wait to make it a regular dining occurrence every time I visit St John's.Food: 5/5
Food was amazing and our server was really friendly. It was really nice to go to a restaurant that had a separate vegan menu with so many options. Dining in felt a little cramped as it was really busy and all the tables were booked. Dietary restrictions: They have a whole separate vegan menu with lots of tasty options!
Gingergrass is by far the best Thai/Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. The owners are so nice and the food is always top quality. My only complaint, they left Halifax and moved to St John’s! I need to get me to NFLD! Highly recommend if you’ve not tried them yet. 15/10 Best anywhere.
Excellent service with great recommendations. Came in for the pho which is delicious and ended trying the coconut soup with shrimp as well. Very very good. The place is fresh up to date and relaxing Check them out.
Only Vietnamese option In town. Thankfully its good. I always have the pork noodle bowls and never disappoints. Shrimp spring rolls condom wraps are small and never wrapped properly, I've given them a few tries but won't get them again. Too bad as they are my favorite Vietnamese item to eat.Food: 5/5
Since my utensils were dirty, I could only imagine how the kitchen area is maintained. This being said, our waitress was friendly and professional. The issue is what may be happening in the kitchen.Food: 1/5
