A cool piece of history and a must-see when visiting Gastown! The Steam Clock is a unique, old-fashioned attraction that whistles and releases steam every 15 minutes, which makes for a great photo op. The surrounding area is charming, with cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and plenty of shops and restaurants to explore.nnThe only downside is that it’s always packed with tourists, making it hard to get a clear photo or enjoy the moment without a crowd. If you’re hoping for a quieter experience, try visiting early in the morning or later in the evening. Still, it’s definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!
Wow, such a cool steam clock. When we walked up on the hour it was playing music and the steam was flowing. A really fun little area to see in Vancouver. The lights on the buildings give a unique backdrop in the evenings.
If you’re planning to visit the amazing Steam Clock, make sure to be there right on the hour—like 9:00, 10:00, or later. Why? Because at the stroke of each hour, the clock whistles the corresponding number of times—10 times at 10:00, 11 times at 11:00, and so on.nnIt’s a unique experience you won’t want to miss! For the best vibe, I recommend visiting at 9:00 PM or later—it’s absolutely worth it.
I've visited the clock before but this was the first time I got to hear the chimes go off so that was fun. Weather was great that day and foot traffic was minimal on a Friday afternoon. Lots of great food and gift shops around the area as well.
Pretty cool to see as there are not many in the world. I would say that you wont spend more than 15 minutes here. Time your trip by the hour as it would do the full song and tell you the hour with steam tooting through whistles. I enjoyed the experience to see it but the landmark was not anything you would wait in line for, not that there is a line to wait for in the first place. But I guess if too many people crowd the clock, just come back after an hour later, visiting some other location in gastown area.
