We opted to stop here before continuing our journey to Edmonton and it was well worth the visit! We were greeted by Mariam who was very kind and shared the story of how the museum came to be in the possession of a Grand Trunk Railway safe. We got to see the old railway station and learn about the growth of railway, timber and coal towns in the area. The exhibits are smaller in nature but give a lot of great information and there was quite a few interactive elements - we particularly enjoyed the telegraph station! They also have an extensive taxidermy collection of local wildlife. There is a lovely seating area where you can enjoy a packed lunch or take a short walk in the neighbouring Centennial park where you can see Eddie the squirrel, RCAF airplane and a railway car. Excellent value $5 per adult and great experience here!
Unfortunately it was closed when I visited. I did, however, check out the older model, Canadian National Railway caboose that sit on tracks that lead nowhere, and a CT-133 Silver Star aircraft poised motionless in mid flight. Canadian company Canadair/Lockheed produced 656 CT-133 Silver jets from 1952 -2005. The Silver Star was primarily used as a military training aircraft.
Not a bad one time stop on the way to Jasper from Edmonton. The kids loved the telegraph station and extensive taxidermy. Extra star for the candy Legos they got for ringing the bell.nnOf course stopping at Eddie the giant squirrel is also a must do .
Great museum in Edson. Unfortunately we did not have time to actually go into the museum, we will have to do that another time but it looks very interesting. Everything else was very good. The staff is friendly and courteous. There are public washrooms available that are clean and accessible. There is a gift shop that is very nice. The building is in a park setting so you can go for a walk if you want.
Here, you can see the history of Edson Town, Alberta
