I am glad I found this hidden gem. So I was debating if I wanted Franklin Giant Grinder or a grinder from this place! I’m glad I made the right choice and I was not disappointed. I’m very picky about where I eat a roast beef sub/grinder from. It was so perfect! The onion rings are huge! I could go on and on…and by the way they have chili. Just call and ask if they have it for the day. Had I not ordered so much I would have gotten some.
A great Steak sandwich is so hard to find. Especially anywhere north of South Philly. After a decade in the greater Philadelphia area, I've learned that the classic South Street Steak and cheese does not exist anywhere else. And then I rolled into Gs Steaks and Grinders. G was at the flat top when I entered, just finishing an order. There were even old time photos of the founders on the walls. It was not so busy, and the whole aura of the open room was welcoming. I ordered a 6" Steak and cheese, for a test bite, while G and I discussed the majic of various establishments on South Street, S. Philly. I sat down, and let the cheese ooze out from the bun. First bite was a delayed reaction, and soon I knew. Real deal, real quality, real craftsmanship at the grille and REAL good people. After all this time, 35 years of searching, the quest for an authentic steak sandwich was finally discovered right here on the west end of Park St. So...just hop off the hiway, pass by all the fast food frenzy, and pull up to Gs Steaks and Grinders. You will surely return over and again? Parking: Parking on either side of the street with more free lot options across the street
Great cookies and bad sandwiches. Steak and cheese was not good. The south west version was so greasy tasting that it made me sick. Skip this place. Jersey Mike's has a better steak and cheese.
Outstanding cheesesteak. You won't go wrong here. Everything was on point. The flavor of the cheese steak was out of this world. The roll is great, so many places forget to use good quality bread. G's nailed it. Fries were perfect, Customer service was wonderful, very polite and accommodating.
So I'm a truck driver , and was in Hartford for two days waiting to get my 70hrs back to drive and I was feeling for something other then the usual truck stop BS. So I called for a lyft and ask the driver to take me somewhere different, he said I got you brother,, we ended up at G's Steak N Grinders, he said you'll love it here,, and he was right. The food was amazing, I met the owner Mr. Mike and his staff, and we all chat and shared laughter together like it was a family, I felt at home, they were so friendly and so down to earth and humble. I had a great time there, I ordered the cheese steak but kept it simple, provolone green peppers onions n shrooms. And also the chicken bacon ranch wrap, ah mehn both orders were delicious and the sandwiches were huge with ingredients ,unlike subway and the others G's give it to you like you see on TV, money's worth, and the place is super clean great atmosphere and hard workers. So definitely check this place out you won't regret, oh and if ain't greasy it ain't a cheese steak sandwich. I'll be back when am in CT again.
Hands down this place is phenomenal. Get yourself a delicious fresh cheese steak or grinder. Even wraps. Amazing customer service, and a great space. This place is dishing out delicious food in the city, a well worth drive when you have a craving or an amazing lunch spot . I can’t wait to come back for more!
My first time being here and it’s absolutely AMAZING. I live a few blocks down the road and i’ll for sure be coming back. If you’re a hartford local or just love a good philly you won’t regret it. ask for the G sauce it’s unbeatable!
I'm a fan of steak and cheese. I stopped by one day to talk to the owner about his fire suppression system needs and recognized right away how clean everything was. I also notice that they cook your food right there in front of you, of which I'm a fan. Although initially, I thought it a little expensive, after eating the G's Steak, I get it! Very good! Excellent job, Mike; I'll be going there again and telling friends about your place. As I mentioned earlier, I had the G's Steak with some cheese fries, which were very big and delicious . I would have taken photos, but that's for another day when I eat in.
My 1st time there since I am a travel Nurse. I stumbled across this place by accident. G’s food is amazing, the total experience was 1 of a kind. Great food, fresh, prepared in front of you!!!! And the homemade cookies are delicious. Will be going back to try other items on his menu!!!! Thanks for the great dinner. Parking: Lots of parking in the back, side street and in front of the building.
Not sure what the people with the 1-2 star reviews are referring to but they obviously don’t know anything about good food. We had the chicken bacon ranch and southwest subs with crab and regular fries. Everything was beyond amazing. The southwest was juicy and just the right amount of seasoning. The CBR was also very well made. The bread is soft and perfectly toasted. The fries were hot and crispy. This place does the fries right by poking holes in the lids so they don’t get soggy. Highly recommend this place! I will be back!
