Went for lunch after hearing about them on the news. We got of course the noodle soup AMAZING! Son had a Bacon Cheeseburger and I had the crispy salad with their Honey Mustard dressing which is also AMAZING! We got great food with good service! Loved the relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth the drive and definitely will be back. Only picture I have is on the salad. By the way the tenders are hand trimmed and breaded. Love them!
I was very hopeful about this place and drove over 30 minutes after being recommended the chicken sandwich. The ambiance was nice, staff was amazing, but the sandwich fell short. For some reason it smelled/ tasted like cigarettes. The fries were just tasteless, absolutely no salt/seasoning and seemed like frozen fries. Didn’t even get to enjoy the meal so very sad and disappointed family here. Now I have to make dinner.
This time I had the Walleye dinner and my wife had Cod and her Dad had the Perch and they were wonderful, tasty and filling. A fresh salad bar with delicious soups. Friday night was home made broccoli cheese and chicken noodle. Our waitress was very attentive filling out drinks and asking if we needed anything. Will be back again for certain.

The tenderloin was one of the best! All the food on our table was top-notch. Service friendly and fast. Well worth the short trip to a great lunch. Definitely will make it again. Thanks Food: 5/5
Visiting Byron, IL from Los Angeles, I had such a terrific dining experience with my family at Fritz’s Wooden Nickel in Stillman Valley last night! It’s a lovely, old, local tavern with a dining room filled with nice folks & families from the community. My mother and brother both had the walleye and I ordered the single pork chop with a tasty hand-crafted Bloody Mary. The staff was very attentive and everything was so flavorful and totally on point! Our dinners also included the all you can eat soup & salad bar, which offered farm to table freshness and delicious homemade soups & dressings superior to some of the finer dining establishments in LA and Chicago. I don’t usually take the time to review anything unless I’m incredibly impressed or thoroughly disappointed. Fritz’s Wooden Nickel completely exceeded my expectations and I really hope I get a chance to dine there again before I head back to Cali.

Great place for a relaxing family meal. The food is always good and drinks are fairly inexpensive. Have a few drinks and excellent food, this is the place.Food: 5/5
PROs...good food, good service. CONs...self serve salad and soup bar. Plastic gloves for patrons were available but off on a side table use was not encouraged in any way. Customers should have been required to use the gloves. Most were not aware that the gloves were there. High school kids refilling salad bar and bussing tables should have had hair covered. Boy on salad bar had long curly hair, girl bussing tables had long straight hair that she kept running her hands through to get it off her face. UNACCEPTABLE. Their hair should have been tied back and they should have had caps covering their heads. The other choice would have been hair nets! Not sure if I'm going back.
Had dinner at the Nickel tonight. Fried cod was excellent. Service was also excellent. No complaints.
