Dear Management Team,nnI am writing to you regarding a sign displayed at your Hamilton location Queenston and Nash that reads: “Only one student in the store at a time.”nnWhile I understand and appreciate a retailer’s right to manage operations and ensure safety, this particular policy raises several concerns under both fairness principles and applicable human rights standards.nn1. Discriminatory Targeting of a Specific GroupnBy singling out “students,” the policy effectively criminalizes or stigmatizes individuals based solely on their status, which is not a behavior-based criterion. Students are a diverse group encompassing all ages, backgrounds, and communities. Restricting their access solely because they are students may amount to discriminatory treatment, as it creates an arbitrary distinction without justifiable grounds.nn2. Lack of Clear Definition or Practical EnforcementnThe term “student” is not defined in the sign. Anyone can be a student—children, adults enrolled in post-secondary education, mature learners, or those attending evening classes. Without clarification, staff are left to enforce the policy based on subjective judgment, which introduces inconsistency, potential bias, and the risk of unfair treatment.nn3. Impractical and Inequitable ApplicationnFrom a practical standpoint, enforcing this rule is unworkable. If multiple students arrive simultaneously, is there a designated waiting line outside the store? Who verifies whether an individual is or is not a student, and on what basis? These ambiguities create confusion for customers and staff alike and raise questions about proportionality in policy enforcement.nn4. Negative Impact on Community RelationsnThe sign sends a message that students, as a group, are not trusted customers. This risks alienating young people, undermining Fresco’s reputation as an inclusive community grocery provider. Such messaging can easily be perceived as discriminatory and hostile, particularly when less exclusionary alternatives exist e.g., clear policies on theft prevention, staff vigilance, or a general “no more than X customers at a time” rule that applies equally to all.nnRequestnI respectfully urge you to review and remove this signage. If your intention is to address concerns about theft, crowd control, or safety, there are numerous neutral and non-discriminatory ways to accomplish this that do not unfairly target students as a class.nnI would appreciate confirmation that this matter is being reviewed and steps are being taken to ensure Fresco’s policies reflect inclusivity, fairness, and equal treatment of all customers.
Dear Manager & Managment,nKindly do you work with honesty, My kid ate this october expired product, you guys are playing with peoples health and trust.nEven after informing your reaction was cold !!!
The guys that accommodate the fresh produce by the entrance, where plantains are they are the most vibrant and energetic guys I have ever met in a grocery store.nnWhile they work, they are talking with children, laughing and serving customers with doubts. Good for you guys! I am sorry I don't have your names.nnThis location is clean and well equipped.nnUPDATE April 2022:nThe merchandise guy from Jamaica is very helpful. Great customer service!nnMy mother says this grocery store has the best prices and I trust her judgement! nnThe shelves were nicely stocked, well priced - fresh produce… everything clean as expected.
Never a pleasant experience shopping here. The store is messy, aisles are blocked by noisy shelf stockers. I've returned several products that were expired but most of all the self-checkout cashiers are so disgustingly rude and condescending. Never coming back. i tend to only chose self check out when the one or two i actually apprciate are in the storennEdit: gave them a try again, still horrible service from one particular check out worker and also wound up sick from another expired product
Staff are always friendly. If you go first thing the shelves are always stocked but if you can only go at the end of the day the shelves can be missing items.
