This is one of my favourite museums in Manitoba. It is really well maintained and interesting, with lots of different stories and artifacts. We came twice and spent almost 3 hours with my kids each time. The staff is very friendly and they strongly recommend covid measures.
We are spending a weekend in Portage la Prairie, and decided to check out the 'Fort La Reine' museum on the outskirts of town. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up being blown away. There is a lot to see, and you're pretty much given free reign to wander around and look at the houses/artifacts. There are about a dozen houses and various buildings from the late 19th century and early 20th century depicting various eras of life on the prairies. There is also a small railway display, and a building dedicated to the military history in the area. Oh, and don't forget the huge Allis Chalmers building FILLED with old tractors and farm equipment. If you're ever in the area of PLP and have a few hours to spare, check out Fort La Reine museum. It's 100% worth the $10 entry fee $5 for kids!
This is a large museum with several old homes and stores that you can walk through. So much to look at! There's also an old train and caboose, and a military mess hall with uniforms and other displays. Very interesting. Allow plenty of time to see it all, at least an hour and a half!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A fantastic little museum! You can explore yourself or a free guided tour is available with your admission. I highly recommend the guided tour....you get so much information and fun facts from the tour guide as you're shown everything! Our guide was a just delightful gentleman named Chase. We had a GREAT time on our tour with him. We will definitely be returning for their special events!
I've visited Fort la Reine Museum for three years but with COVID-19 I'm unfortunately unable to visit this summer due to long distance. Missing it terribly. Spending your summers at Fort la Reine Museum is so much fun. They have Sunday crafts and programs, tea party tours, escape rooms, and other special programs/events. One program that was my favourite was the cinnamon bun making with the pioneer clay oven! The people they hire care about their patrons, the buildings and the artifacts. Its a great place to go on a guided or self guided tour and bring a lunch with you. Its great for kids, adults and seniors. The cats at the Fort la Reine Museum are also very adorable and cuddly. Highly recommend going to Fort la Reine Museum for any occasion.
The museum has been updated, is cleaner/tidier than ever, and now features a ton of local events from tea parties to escape rooms. It's really come a long way! If you're local, you owe it another visit to see the updates. If you're from out of town, it's certainly worth the trip if you're a history buff, tractor enthusiast or simply in search of a good way to spend the day!
Super cool place! Definitely a hidden gem! Great place to bring kids for a walk back in time. There's also tables placed throughout for a picnic lunch opportunity.
Was very different , it was good to look thru all the different homes and see how people lived long ago.Even lucked out on a BBQ Family had a Great Time!..‍‍‍
