Fort George
"Soldiers in redcoats fire muskets, clouding the air with black powder smoke. Music drifts past blockhouses, a historic powder magazine, and cannons on the lookout. Step straight from the genteel Victorian town of Niagara-on-the-Lake into the War of 1812 at Fort George, a military post that defended Upper Canada against American attacks."

This was an absolute joy to visit. Adults will enjoy the history, the kids will enjoy seeing the staff dressed in their historical costumes. Musket demonstration was a lot of fun as well as both the music and cooking demos. The barracks are very well kept and you're free to wander the fort. Chat to the soldiers, very knowledgeable about the Fort's history. Entry fee is around $15. Fun time for kids and adults.
We were there in late-June 2022. There's a Parks Canada shelter at the front where you can get your tickets and also some Parks Canada items. We did end up getting some apparel. Overall, it was an educational tour of the historic site and it was interesting to learn more about the history of Canada. It's a big site area with various rooms where you learn more about how people lived in the past.
A wonderful experience. And such friendly staff and historical actors . A great place to spend a day especially when there's battle reenactments. This day they were doing the Napoleonic wars, so you had to suspend belief a little and pretend you were in Spain for this reenactment lolVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well maintained. Clean and beautiful arrangements. Various shows are organized on weekends. We attended a puppet show, a musical event and a gun firing show. Nice experience for kids.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I love history and seeing these sites alive with activity and of course the fine summer guards who portrayed the 41st Regiment of Foot with a keen eye for accuracy. I was also pleased to see the return of in person reenactments with the fine folks from both the War of 1812 and Napoleononic groups putting on an excellent display. Nothing like the smell of gunpowder to bring me back 200 years. In addition to these the site staff were friendly helpful and passionate about the site and its history.
This was a fun trip, we watched the musket demonstration there's also a demonstration of the army drummers and flutist which was really impressive. The demonstrations are done by reenactment actors all dressed up in army clothing of the 18th century. They gave us lots of information and answered all our questions. They had lots of exhibitions too around the fort. Takes 1 to 2 hours to get around. I would recommend it if you have kids or if you want to learn more history of the area.
Cool place to teach your kids on War of 1812. They've rebuilt all of the fort for history and fire black powder rifle no lead, blocked with wax paper for safety.
Did a good job at trying to replicate the historic feel, and it was filled with lots information about the site. we watched the musket show , and it was very entertaining
It's fun to go here and read and see all about the war of 1812, but I recommend going when there's cloud cover as there is hardly any shadow.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
